we are selling Nikki's old bed, as she doenst seem to use it anymore! it cost over 70pound, we are looking to sell it for around 30. its been on adtrader for a few weeks now, and we've had no interest, so i thought i'd try on here! it is a great size for any greyhound/lurcher and is really comfy, Nikki has hardly used it, and has decided she would rather have the couch! so it is in good condition.

heres the link to the advert

http://www.adtrader.co.uk/item_detail.php?aid=377883&class_id=191&hdl=OVAL+DOG+BED&prsuid=377883

I would like 30 for it, but if somone on here wants it i'll sell it for 20 :) i just really want rid of it, as its a good size and we have nowhere to put it! i would also like the money to fund Wolfies new coat and collar!! as he's had enough of nikki's hand me downs!!

We have been asked to help with 2 dogs that a elderly man has. 4 dogs are living in a council bungalow but only 2 can stay.
At the moment all we know is that there is a 8 year old and a 2 year old, both bitches that are not spayed.
The 8 year old has always lived in a house so we don't want to put her in kennels.

We are looking for a foster home for the 8 year old once she has come into the rescue and has been spayed.

I will add more info when we do get both dogs in.

Anyone interested please get in contact with Michelle or Lorraine info@greyhoundrescue.net

If this happens over 200 animals may have to be put to sleep! please help, any donation no matter how small will be a great help for the sanctuary.

hey, we have been in a similar situation before too, you could always ring or e-mail someone at the rescue, but they are normally full, as with most places there is usually a waiting list, what we did was give them all the contact details of all other local rescues too to see if they have any places (greyhounds galore?), or if you want you could ring them and tell them about it. hope you manage to help him :)

Hi there,

At the Working Man's Club where I work there is a man who wants to find somewhere for his greyhound to go, he is a greyhound owner who races them and I said I would find out the procedure (and donation he has to give etc) for Greyhound Rescue Northeast to take the dog off his hands. I would hate to see him get the dog put down and to be honest he admits he has done it before. Although I basically have no time for greyhound racers I want to help this greyhound out.

Can you let me know if it could be kennelled with Steve Duncan and hopefully find a loving home.

Thanks

TASS
Tass is a 2½ year old adorable smooth coated lurcher who is looking for a loving home to call his own. He has been brought to our attention as his foster carer is unable to take him to work with her anymore. This arrangement has certainly been to Tass’s advantage as he enjoys company and does not appreciate being left all day.

Tass would benefit from someone who is willing to make to make a difference to ensure that the recent upheavals and uncertainties that he has experienced in his life are firmly in the past. He loves to be loved whether you have 2 legs or 4. He gets along well with all sizes of dogs and being only young he loves to play. At the present time he is sharing a home with much older dogs one of which is a Yorkshire terrier. It may come as no surprise that the terrier is top dog and being a proper gentleman, Tass has fitted in well and abides by this ‘rule’.

He undoubtly has many qualities which also include being house trained; travelling well in a car and curling up small when required! He has recently commenced medication for epilepsy which costs 24p per day. However, in the time that Tass has been with his current carers, and this includes a period of time prior to the start of medication, there has been no evidence of a fit.

As Tass is not part of Greyhound Rescue North East, all enquiries that are received will be forwarded onto his foster carer’s.

I was thrilled to hear about Hope's progress, what a turn around!

Myself and my husband James picked up Hope from the lady who found her. We were both upset and horrified that someone would let a dog get into such a state. To be honest we both thought that she had very little chance of survival, but a wag of her tail gave us some hope (hence the name) With the quick actions of Steve and the dedicated help of Diane Kelly, (who nursed Hope 24/7 during the first critical weeks), Hope was soon on the road to recovery.

Please read the appeal below from Greyhound Compassion and take inmmediate action by sending polite letters to the Jamaican High Commisssion in London.

Original info (contact details and sample letter follow):

Greyhound racing has great potential, says Jamaican MP

Published on Saturday, June 7, 2008

KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS): A Member of the Jamaican Parliament, Dr St Aubyn Bartlett, has said that greyhound racing has great potential for creating more jobs in Jamaica than the nation's horse racing industry.

Bartlett, who is also close to the racing industry as a veterinarian, was making his contribution to the 2008/09 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

He noted that greyhound racing was an evening and night event, with two race meets per day totalling 24 or more races in one day.

"This is an attraction which can provide the needed nightly industry entertainment for our tourism industry," Bartlett said.

He also informed that several potential investors and stakeholders were at the "starting gates rearing to chase the hare."

"Currently, there are no greyhounds in Jamaica, meaning a new industry will be created starting with the importation of breeding stock, the establishment of breeding kennels and training facilities and the building of stadia," Bartlett said.

The Member of Parliament also informed that he has been meeting with potential investors, both locally and overseas.

"I have asked the Minister in charge of animal sports industry for a meeting with these stakeholders at a time convenient to him. This is an investment opportunity that Jamaica cannot afford to miss," Bartlett emphasised.

Please feel free to consult, quote and refer people to them or you might like to use this sample letter as a model.

Sample letter:

I am writing to you regarding the potential start of greyhound racing in Jamaica. Throughout the world wherever greyhounds are raced, thousands of greyhounds that are surplus to requirements are being abandoned and slaughtered. Abusing animals in the name of entertainment is NOT a tourist attraction and it will inevitably have a negative effect on your tourist trade.

The greyhound racing industry has been in decline for many years especially in the USA where the industry has had massive financial losses. This is for several reasons, the first being that it has been recognised as a cruel sport and banned in many states in the USA and even more recently it has been abolished in South Africa. Even in the UK and Ireland (the birthplace of greyhound racing) attendances are falling and stadiums are closing. Greyhound racing has become widely condemned in the UK as a result of the constant exposure in the media of the cruelty and deaths suffered by greyhounds in the racing industry.

Finally greyhound racing attracts and is associated with the criminal underworld and the use of illegal drugs as recently exposed in a documentary by the BBC.

I urge you to reconsider and keep greyhound racing out of Jamaica. I will not be visiting Jamaica if greyhound racing begins there and will actively encourage others to boycott the country too.

Yours sincerely

Jul 18 2008 by Neil Mckay, The Journal

AN animal sanctuary boss is planning to chain herself to the Angel of the North, dressed as a chicken, today in a desperate attempt to save more than 300 rescue animals.

Mother-of-four Paula Campbell, 42, fears her animals may have to be destroyed if she is evicted from the sanctuary she has run for almost six years at Milkup Bank Farm, Willington, near Crook, County Durham.

Mrs Campbell, a widow, has been managing to feed her menagerie including horses, goats, dogs, feral cats, canaries, Shetland ponies, ducks, geese, chickens, pigeons and other species at her sanctuary, called Rainbow Ark, against the odds.

She is currently in a costly wrangle with a firm of surveyors over a previous property she sold, which she claims was severely undervalued.

And she faces eviction from the 45-acre holding unless she can find £25,000 within two weeks.

Mrs Campbell said: “Desperate times call for desperate measures. I am perfectly sane – not some sort of eccentric – but I have reached the end of my tether.

“If I am evicted from here and these animals are destroyed, it will destroy me too. People bring unwanted animals here from all over Britain. Recently I was given some husky dogs from London to look after, while one morning I noticed extra birds in the pigeon sheds.

“Somebody had actually broken in and left some more pigeons for me to look after.

“It costs me £1,100 a week to feed the animals, which I do not resent. You come onto this Earth with nothing and you leave with nothing – but right now I do need some urgent help.

“I decided to chain myself to the Angel of the North because I am in need of help from a guardian angel, and I need to publicise the plight of the animals.

“The sanctuary is not only a haven for animals – children from the area also visit Rainbow Ark, including disabled youngsters. I would rather die than leave here. I have put my heart and soul into this place,” said Mrs Campbell.

Rainbow Ark Animal Sanctuary also has a separate area known as Durham Dales Ferret Rescue, where more than 20 ferrets are cared for.

“Ferrets may not be cuddly like cats and dogs but they are also living creatures,” said Mrs Campbell, who took a farm management course at college and is also a talented artist and author.

She has written a children’s book called Norah A. Chicken and is offering some of her artwork for sale. Norah A. Chicken can be bought online for £5.
