Grails plugin and the development build

Hey all,

I'm new to the list, just trying Netbeans for the first time over Eclipse. I am liking it very much, lightweight and clean and all that.

Anywho... although incomplete for the time being I was enjoying the grails plugin which I tested at home. I tried to bring it to work by zipping up the whole netbeans folder but for some reason the grails plugin did not come with it. Since then I have downloaded several of the dev builds trying to get the damn thing but the plugin is not present.

The recatalog doesn't work, probably due to our coporate firewall. It seems to me I am lacking some basic understanding of how plugins work because I just do not get why I can't get access to the grails plugin.

Can someone throw me a bone on this please, I can't stand using Eclipse for groovy/grails.

You need a development build, not a 6.1 build; grails is planned to be
in the 6.5 release.

Indeed I do need a dev build, that is what I am using. The problem is
that the dev builds I am downloading do not contain the grails plugin.
Although the grails plugin is not fully cooked yet it is more than
servicable in it's current state, assuming I could actually get it
installed.

I have downloaded serveral flavors of the dev build from the javase to
the full enchilada...no love.

My communication skills are only at a coffee:1 level so far this
morning, I'll take another crack...

========================================================================
========================

I have been in the plug-in manager, the grails plug-in is not listed.

It's not in the available tab, not in the downloaded tab and not in the
installed tab.

Searching for groovy or grails in the plugin manager returns nothing.

Searching my installation files for *.nbm returns nothing.

This is what I have been trying to get across, the grails dev plugin
does not seem to be in the latest builds.

That, or I am losing my mind.

Re: [nbusers] Grails plugin and the development build
Hi Shane,

I have been installing the groovy/grails plugin with success in development builds multiple times the last couple of weeks. So I think there should not be a problem. Have you ever been able to install it?
What I have noticed, is that I don't see any updates upon subsequent installs. I always remove my ${USER_HOME}/.netbeans/dev directory to be able to see all downloadable modules and thus to always get the latest development builds of the groovy/grails plugin.

Hope this might work out for you too.

Kind regards,

Benny

Unless you use "Force install into shared directories" option in plugin
manager, installed plugins are stored in your userdir, so you should
copy it too (ussually $HOME/.netbeans/version). I think this is the
reason why the plugin didn't come when you copied the netbeans folder.

Ahh...ok that makes sense then, I will check that when I hit home
tonight, hopefully I can zip that up and bring it in.

Oh and benny.vaessen, thanks for your reply too, I did indeed have it
installed on my home machine. It appears my firewall at work is blocking
the update site as I am unable to view/download any plug-ins.
Interesting as downloading the installer itself is fine...

Thanks again you two :)
