Grails and Tomcat: test your deployment often

I'm new to Grails and I think it is awesome but have learned a painful lesson the hard way -

First I built a trivial app and deployed it to Tomcat and it worked perfectly so I thought "great!".

Then I built a not-so-trivial app using a variety of plug-ins (acegi, searchable, webtest, radeox) and the war unpacks fine in Tomcat but then fails to load any page with the dreaded 404 error, nothing in the logs, etc. (And yes, with 512 MB of ms/mx and, no, no camel case names that mess up Windows deploys)

So now I'm slowly rebuilding my app to see where the deploy broke...

Moral of the story: test your deployment often as you develop! (And yes, all you experienced devs out there are probably saying "No duh!")
