Google KML questionThe idea behind GPSBABEL is great. I have an Explorist 500 and do not like the MAPSEND software. I prefer to create routes using Google Maps but I had not found a way to translate for my GPS. I have been trying to take the KML data below and translate it to Magallean SD but I always get a 0 bit file. I tried other formats including CSV with the same result. I'm using the latest version of GPSBABEL from the site. Thanks for any help.

Re: Google KML questionI'm not sure how you make this file, but it doesn't contain data that we need.
Using Google Maps, enter a start and an end. Click on 'link'. Add an "&output=kml" to the end. Copy that link and open in a new tab or browser window or whatever. It'll prompt you to save a file named "maps.kml". That file will contain KML that includes a polyline for the route and all the turnpoints and not just a network link like you've shown below. That file we can read fine. It sounds way more complicated than it is. The whole process takes less than a second. Tip: for sending to an Explorist, you'll want to turn the whole thing into a route: gpsbabel -r -i kml -f maps\(3\).kml -xtransform,rte=wpt,del -o magellanx -F blah.rte ... will result in a blah.rte containing a route for explorist $PMGNWPL,3555.772,N,08650.512,W,0000000,M,Head south on Mack H,go 0.9 mi,a*46 $PMGNWPL,3555.036,N,08650.670,W,0000000,M,Turn left at Murfree,go 1.2 mi,a*31 $PMGNWPL,3554.842,N,08649.432,W,0000000,M,Turn left onto the r,go 0.3 mi,a*4D $PMGNWPL,3555.084,N,08649.418,W,0000000,M,Merge onto I-65 N,go 16.6 mi,a*08 $PMGNWPL,3608.665,N,08646.618,W,0000000,M,Take exit 82B to mer,go 1.0 mi,a*6E $PMGNWPL,3609.184,N,08645.889,W,0000000,M,Take exit 211B on th,go 5.0 mi,a*22 $PMGNWPL,3613.161,N,08646.470,W,0000000,M,Slight right at I-65,go 432 mi,a*7C $PMGNWPL,4135.369,N,08718.401,W,0000000,M,Take exit 262 to mer,go 29.4 mi,a*29 $PMGNWPL,4150.312,N,08737.838,W,0000000,M,Take exit 53 for I-5,go 0.7 mi,a*6E $PMGNWPL,4150.813,N,08737.679,W,0000000,M,Merge onto I-55 N,go 0.6 mi,a*31 $PMGNWPL,4150.878,N,08736.983,W,0000000,M,Take the exit onto S,go 1.3 mi,a*70 $PMGNWPL,4151.789,N,08737.115,W,0000000,M,Slight left at S Col,go 1.1 mi,a*4F $PMGNWPL,4152.699,N,08737.240,W,0000000,M,Turn left at E Jacks,go 0.2 mi,a*5B $PMGNWPL,4152.697,N,08737.451,W,0000000,M,Turn right at S Mich,go 456 ft,a*4C $PMGNWPL,4152.772,N,08737.455,W,0000000,M,Turn left at Adams S,go 23 ft,a*7A $PMGNWPL,4152.772,N,08737.460,W,0000000,M,Arrive at: Chicago I,Arrive at: Chicago IL,a*03 $PMGNRTE,8,1,c,1,,Head south on Mack Hatcher Blvd/TN-397 toward Murfreesboro Rd,a,Turn left at Murfreesboro Rd/TN-96,a*3F $PMGNRTE,8,2,c,1,,Turn left onto the ramp to Nashville,a,Merge onto I-65 N,a*76 $PMGNRTE,8,3,c,1,,Take exit 82B to merge onto I-40 E toward Knoxville,a,Take exit 211B on the left to merge onto I-24 W toward I-65 N,a*08 $PMGNRTE,8,4,c,1,,Slight right at I-65 N (signs for I-65 N/Louisville) Passing,a,Take exit 262 to merge onto I-90 W Partial toll road Enterin,a*7E $PMGNRTE,8,5,c,1,,Take exit 53 for I-55 N/Stevenson Expy toward Lake Shore Dr,a,Merge onto I-55 N,a*1B $PMGNRTE,8,6,c,1,,Take the exit onto S Lake Shore Dr N/US-41 N,a,Slight left at S Columbus Dr,a*01 $PMGNRTE,8,7,c,1,,Turn left at E Jackson Blvd/E Jackson Dr,a,Turn right at S Michigan Ave,a*57 $PMGNRTE,8,8,c,1,,Turn left at Adams St/E Adams St,a,Arrive at: Chicago IL,a*09 On Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 8:18 PM, Eric Karsten <karsten4476@...> wrote: The idea behind GPSBABEL is great.
