Google Ajax API hosting javascript libraries

Hey there,

Bob, or other maintainers, were you contacted by Google about this:
http://ajaxian.com/archives/announcing-ajax-libraries-api-speed-up-your-ajax-apps-with-googles-infrastructure
http://code.google.com/apis/ajaxlibs/

In short, Google is hosting javascript libraries on a dedicated domain
so that authors of web-apps can link
directly to a specific version located there, so that users are not
downloading the same libraries over and
over from various webservers.

I know Mochikit development is currently mostly "maintain only" - but
Google states that they want to add more libraries. Do you think
Mochikit should be one of them?

cheers,
Arnar

Think this a question for Bob, but I think it would be nice if we
could offer this. But that would of course only be version 1.3.1...
Which brings further motivation for pushing forward with a release of
version 1.4 (which I hope for before the end of August).

Personally, I don't see the Google offer as being such a big thing.
MochiKit is already packaged in a minimized version that most people
uses. And judging from my recent experiences with Gmail losing its
connection, being slow, etc, I don't know if the Google servers are
faster at all times. Rather, it seems like it depends on the use case
and general load.

We should probably offer this service, though.

Cheers,

/Per

If you have the means, that would be awesome. I imagine bandwidth
could quickly become a factor.

If you can provide this kind of hosting, you could even offer specific
SVN revisions of the code, something like <script
src="http://www.mochikit.org/hosted/mochikit/r1234/mochikit.packed.js"></script>.
I don't do webdevelopment anymore (for the moment at lest), but in my
opinion that could even alleviate some of the "gimme a release" posts
:)

Ah, I mean offering this service through Google.

Regarding offering specific svn revisions, I think that is only a
work-around for the long delay between releases. We should push
forward with 1.4 asap instead.
