Goodbye LightzoneHi,
i really enjoyed using Lightzone for Linux the last couple of months but now it's time to switch. I started with Lightzone 2.1 retouching my Canon EOS 400D/Rebel XTi photos and worked with LZ 2.4 recently. After testing BibblePro for some days now i decided to go with Bibble and say "thank you" to LightCrafts for their free product. I really considered buying Lightzone 3.x for Linux if it had been released by now. Since there are only rumours but no hard evidence that there will even be a supported Linux version i'll go stick with BibblePro. Some reasons why i prefer BibblePro over Lightzone for Linux (2.4): -No RAW-support for Canon EOS 40D - all images have a red tint -Replacing dcraw with a newer version results in "Unknown file format" (or something like this) message in Lightzone -That's the reason why i tried BibblePro in the first place, btw -Speed. Lightzone is a lame duck compared to BibblePro -This includes: -Saving (exporting is slow as in bibble) files -Browsing files -Open RAW files -Enforcing SSE2 with Lightzone 2.4 -No real support for Linux Some things i really enjoyed working with Lightzone for Linux: -Zonefinder -Regions Maybe i'll give it a try if a new version gets released for linux. Thanks for reading, Marcel. -- Registrierter Linux User #307343 _______________________________________________ LightZone mailing list LightZone@... http://kast-dev.com/mailman/listinfo/lightzone |

Re: Goodbye LightzoneDid you try RAW Therapee? I've had a play with it and it's quite fast, although I haven't compared it to BibblePro. It uses dcraw so it should have support for the 40D.

Re: Goodbye LightzoneAs others pointed out, I don't think you should compare the two things.
While Bibble is probably better at "developing" your raw files and getting the best out of them, LightZone has capabilities and tools that allow you creative editing of the image. Rather, I could see them working well in pair, with Bibble used for raw conversion and LZ for editing, but that's just my point of view. Though, I agree with you that using LZ under Linux is a little bit frustrating when it comes to new releases announcements or just getting support. And yes, LZ *is* slow at editing / browsing / saving files. So hopefully version 3.x or 4.x or .... :-) Regards Paolo On Friday 07 December 2007 23:46:39 Marcel Meckel wrote: > Hi, > > i really enjoyed using Lightzone for Linux the last couple of months but > now it's time to switch.
