hi,

This is Suman from Univ of Miami .. I have been Gnuplot since 2 years now. It's just great to use. But right now, I am need to combine two plots together whose x-coordinate scale factor is the same but not the y-coordinate. I used the multiplot command to do this and since I needed to change the font also for some labels and titles, I used the enhanced terminal type. Now I want to put a label as "~" at the end points of the two figures separating y-scales(or we can say between the two figures on the y-axis) to show the change of scale but I am not able to do so. When I do not use the terminal type "enhanced", the "~" label works but when I use it along with this terminal, I don't see my figures at all except the lower figures bounding box and the x and y scales .. I believe there is some font problem probably but I do not know what exactly it it. So please can you help me in this?? I will be very thankful to you.
> No. There's no promise of the range reversal affecting sampling order.
> It affects the relation between coordinates and positions on a graph,
> not the order in which those positions are visited. That ordering is

Hello everyone

I have to use table terminal mode to recover the coordinates from a
plotted function with decreasing X.

Example: I want to plot the function f(x)=x^2 between 0 and 10
I want the coordinates from x=10 to x=0

------------------------------------
The commands I wrote:

set table "out"
set xrange [0:10] reverse
plot x**2
------------------------

Then I edit the file called "out"
but the first lines are:

0  0  i
0.10101  0.010203  i
0.20202  0.0408122  i
0.30303  0.0918274  i
0.40404  0.163249  i
0.505051  0.255076  i
0.606061  0.367309  i
0.707071  0.499949  i
0.808081  0.652995  i
0.909091  0.826446  i
1.0101  1.0203  i
..............
Hence, x are in increasing mode, and not decreasing as I wish.

Is it a bug ? If it isn't, how can I release what I want?
Thanks in advance

Best regards

Hi,

I am a beginner with gnuplot
I try to draw in the same figure two histograms from different data files.
I did this:

plot [-1:5] 'file1' using 1
  with boxes,'file2' with boxes

The problem is that I get the boxes for the first file , however i get vetival lines for the second file.
Any idea???
And I want to used different line types for each histogram, how can I do??
Thanks in advance

Thanks, after some further research I came to the same conclusion...

> set pal mod RGB funct (gray>1./400.?sqrt(gray):1), (gray>1./400.?gray**3:1), (gray>1./400.?sin(gray*2.*pi):1)

This is quite fancy! Amazing...
by now I changed the coloring to a simple gradient: white,purple,blue,cyan,green,yellow,red
Which also works - if not as sophisticated...

Many thanks,

Maybe I don't understand the syntax right, but in priciple I get the plot to work when I do

$ set view map
$ set xrange [60:200]
$ set yrange [0:300]
$ set cbrange [0:200]
$ splot "radET1.hdat" u 1:2:4 w image

This gives me a projection of my data to the xy-plane. Now, what I like to do is to exclude points in column 4 which are zero, since in my plot they have no physical meaning and should not be included in the pm3d coloring. Therefore I thought something like

$ splot "radET1.hdat" u 1:2:( $4==0 ? 1/0 : 4 ) w image

would do the trick, but doesn't. It always gives errors like
(For now I shifted the cbrange sightly to negative values)

you don't need to (i just found out how it works):
there is the 'noenhanced' option for 'set xlabel' (and other labels)
which switches the enhanced mode off for this label.
it's useful for labels which contain no special 'enhanced' sequences.

just append 'noenhanced' to your 'set xlabel' command and the xlabel
will appear at the same position as it would appear in 'noenhanced'
but - each label has also a tag (see 'help label')!

so, modifying your script so that your labels have defined tags
will result in modified labels:

set label 1 'Packet Count: $total_packets' at 1,1;
set label 2 'Total Retransmits: $total_retrans' at 1,1.5;

Hi all I have a perl script that is updating my graph in real time.

Basically I am graphing retransmitted packets from netstat -s counter data

I can get that to work too, but unfortunately as soon as the data is updated the numbers garble up as they aren't clearing the previous numbers, but are overwriting them. I am doing this by passing the variable for total packets to the label paramter in gnuplot...

Does anyone have any idea of a way to get gnuplot to print a constantly changing number somewhere on the graph, or is this beyond its capabilities?

Here is the basic gnuplot syntax I'm using from within my perl script... This is all on one line in the script, but I'm breaking it out to make it a bit more readable.
you have to use gnuplot 4.3 from CVS in order to make this work (if there is a
>>
>> I see why you want this. But speed is no good if the program
>> does not function properly, and previous experience showed that
>> unbuffering the input stream was needed for at least some
>> implementations of piped input.
>
> I have changed my mind. The behavior is not likely to differ
> from user to user, only from one platform to another. So it should
> be a configuration option for building on that platform, not a
> run-time option on the command line.
>
> How about we wrap the code as follows:
>
> #ifndef UNBUFFERED_STDIN
>     setvbuf(stdin, (char *) NULL, _IONBF, 0);
> #endif
>
> and you can provide a brief set of instructions for how to set
> this conditional compilation flag during the cygwin configuration setup.
> I have not used cygwin, so I don't know exactly how that is done.
>
> It would be nice if you also checked that this doesn't interfere
> with correct execution of "pause" commands, however, since as I
> recall that was one of the original problems this was supposed to fix.
> For instance, please check that "mousevariables.dem" works properly with
> buffered input under cygwin.
>

The attached patch achieves the speedup and works
properly with mousevariables.dem.

The use of __CYGWIN__ makes it specific to that platform.

I suspect this would also help other platforms.

Please consider for upstream inclusion.
> Hi,
Hi!

>
> I am trying to make an essentially 4d plot with gnuplot. I have a file in
> the form
>
> x y z t
> . . . .
> . . . .
> . . . .
>
> and I want to make a plot where point (x,y,z) gets a color depending on the
> value of t. Anyone knows how to do that?
>

gnuplot> splot 'file.dat' u 1:2:3:4 w p lt palette

see help splot and help palette for additional help.

> thanks
