GNU Zebra manages TCP/IP based routing protocols. It supports BGP-4 protocol as described in RFC1771 (A Border Gateway Protocol 4) as well as RIPv1, RIPv2 and OSPFv2. Unlike traditional, monolithic architectures and even the so-called 'new modular architectures' that remove the burden of processing routing functions from the cpu and utilize special ASIC chips instead, Zebra software offers true modularity. Zebra is unique in its design in that it has a process for each protocol.

Hi Vikas,

you don't need Zebra (any dynamic routing) for this. Simply setup
static route in your server oper. system.

If running linux:
ip route add <dest_net/mask> via <next_hop>

where <dest_net/mask> is network you want routed to "some other
server" and <next_hop> is IP of "some other server"
> I am very basic to zebra. I have some 5-6 servers connected through lan. On
> one of the server I want to configure some router or something so that I can
> route all the requests going out from that server to a particular address
> let say "www.google.com" to some other server (I can install some client on
> that server also to catch these if required). Please help me out on this

telnet is unencrypted and is a pretty unsafe way to connect to a remote
host. On most modern installations this service isn't used any more for
external connections.
I suggest that you use ssh to get a shell-session on the Zebra-host and
continue with local telnet like you described above.

If the kernel version and this kernel can run well under the different architecture. I'm sure you can run zebra binary independent on hardware.

zebra binary is running in the user space mode ,not kernel space mode. and It also depends which kinds of ways you choose to learn and control kernel IP route tables . If you choose hardware dependeced, some errors may occur.

I mean both are 64 bit machine with same kernel version still i am not able to run zebra. if i run i'll get segmentation fault.

my question is how can I build a zebra binary which can run different machines if kernel version is same. May be the hardware may change or same.
Hi All,

I am trying to build zebra binary that which independent on hardware. If kernel version is same then we should be able to run zebra.

Whole idea is to avoid

Ø ./configure

Ø make

Ø make install

Compile only one. Copy binary where we require (provided same kernel) then we should be able to run zebra without any problem.

Currently I am getting a segmentation fault.

Independend from what? Note you can have same kernel revision
on different hardware (architecture). Maybe you want to check out
binary distribution?

Cheers

Hi Team
,

I have query in OSPF implementation ,

We have an internal setup with 3 routers ( ZEBRA
- zebra-0.93b.tar.gz ).

And 2 routers are trying to update the 3rd router
with same route say ( 172.25.25.0/24 )

but one is going to update by Type -3 LSA and
other one via Type - 5 ,

In this scenario , type - 3 is getting added and
no issues.

But if u have already a Type - 5 External route
in ur router and if u add the same route with Type -3 then issue
starts.

Type - 5 is getting deleted and Type - 3 is added
, this is happening but again type - 3 is deleted

so now there is no route in the router either by
type -3 or type -5 ,

IS it a normal behaviour or an issue
