GNOME 2.25.2 Development Release
================================

Early Xmas present! 2.25.2 is here. This is the second development release
towards our 2.26 release that will happen in March 2009. By now, development
is well under way, and we've already made good progress on some of the
goals that we've set ourselves for 2.26 (http://live.gnome.org/GnomeGoals).
Keep up the good work !

To compile GNOME 2.25.2, you can use GARNOME [1] (which supports users
and has additional/different modules available), or the jhbuild [2]
modulesets [3] (which use the exact tarball versions from the official
release):
[1] http://www.gnome.org/projects/garnome/
[2] http://library.gnome.org/devel/jhbuild/
[3] http://download.gnome.org/teams/releng/2.25.2/

The release notes that describe the changes between 2.25.1 and 2.25.2
are available. Go read them to learn all the goodness of this release:

WARNING! WARNING!
--------------------------

This release is a snapshot of development code. Although it is
buildable and usable, it is primarily intended for testing and hacking
purposes. GNOME uses odd minor version numbers to indicate
development status.

For more information about 2.25, the full schedules, the official
modules list and the proposed modules list, please see our 2.25 page:
http://www.gnome.org/start/unstable/

Also take a look at the abbreviated schedule reminder page at:
http://live.gnome.org/Schedule

We hope you'll love it,

[ANNOUNCE] Paperbox 0.4

Hi everyone!

A new release of Paperbox is available for download from
http://download.gnome.org/sources/paperbox/0.4/

What is it?
===========

Paperbox is a document browser.

It instantly discovers your ebooks, office and text documents,
presents them in a convenient way and lets you organize them by tags.
Metadata is stored and retrieved from Tracker.

More information and screenshot at
http://live.gnome.org/PaperBox

Changes since 0.3.1
===================

- Sorting of documents via a drop down box, alphabetically and by date

- Removed the special 'Recent' category

- A document properties dialog with a short summary and selectable text

- Possibly less blank document titles by checking a more common
   metadata field (doc:title instead of doc:subject) and using
   a file name if none available

- Until a document is selected, its tags are displayed with gray
   labels instead of possibly distracting blue link buttons

- A cleaner view with correct left alignment of text and insertion
   of line breaks in long document titles

- Application menu, with keyboard actions

- Page navigation includes first and last page buttons

- Fixed crashes: on null metadata and bug #552648 'crashes during startup'

- Application icon, designed by Jakub Szypulka

- Depends on gtkmm-utils 0.4, version 0.4.1 is preferred

- Updated translations:

Hi,

vte-0.19.1 is released. This is a major new devel release. We're aiming for
releasing 0.20.0 for GNOME 2.26 and hopefully vte 1.0 for GNOME 2.28. Some
API has been marked as deprecated in this release. These are symbols that
will be removed in 1.0. There has been a bunch of other exciting changes in
this release. Many thanks to ChPe for continuously working on keeping vte 1.0
in sight.

Cheers,
behdad

0.19.0
======
- New, PangoCairo, rendering backend. This is functionally equivalent to the
  previous default backend which was Xft. And just a tad bit faster.
- All other backends are removed.
- Configurable cursor shape (block, underline, I-beam).
- Preliminary object properties added to VteTerminal.
- Vte now depends on glib, pango, gtk+, and nothing else.
- API that will be removed in vte 1.0 has been marked deprecated in this
  release.
- gnome-pty-helper does no longer depend on and link to glib
- General code maintenance and cleanup.
- Misc bug fixes.
- Bugs fixed in this release:
release.

Accerciser is an interactive Python accessibility explorer for the GNOME
desktop. It uses AT-SPI to inspect and control widgets, allowing you to
check if an application is providing correct information to assistive
technologies and automated test frameworks. Accerciser has a simple
plug-in framework which you can use to create custom views of
accessibility information.
Version 1.5.2
==========

- Updated translations.
- Added proper context to the term 'View' for i18n (bug #520296).
  Thanks Wouter Bolsterlee!
- No longer highlight the entire desktop when a node is updated to
  the desktop.
- Disable event monitoring if the event being listened for
  disappears.
- Catch exceptions when getting states during state changes.
- Do not highlight an accessible on the desktop if the duration it
  is selected is 0.
- Fixed bug #555416. Set process name to 'accerciser'.
- Fixed bug #555108. Changed "left plugin display area" to "right
  plugin display area". Thanks Lucas Lommer!
- Fixed bug #561598. Display each target of a relation instead of
* Many bug fixes.

Vala is a new programming language that aims to bring modern programming
language features to GNOME developers without imposing any additional
runtime requirements and without using a different ABI compared to
applications and libraries written in C.

valac, the Vala compiler, is a self-hosting compiler that translates
Vala source code into C source and header files. It uses the GObject
type system to create classes and interfaces declared in the Vala source
code.

The syntax of Vala is similar to C#, modified to better fit the GObject
type system. Vala supports modern language features as the following:

        * Interfaces
        * Properties
        * Signals
        * Foreach
        * Lambda expressions
        * Type inference for local variables
        * Generics
        * Non-null types
        * Assisted memory management
        * Exception handling

Vala is designed to allow access to existing C libraries, especially
GObject-based libraries, without the need for runtime bindings. All that
is needed to use a library with Vala is an API file, containing the class
and method declarations in Vala syntax. Vala currently comes with
bindings for GLib and GTK+. It's planned to provide generated bindings for
the full GNOME Platform at a later stage.

Using classes and methods written in Vala from an application written in
C is not difficult. The Vala library only has to install the generated
header files and C applications may then access the GObject-based API of
the Vala library as usual. It should also be easily possible to write a
bindings generator for access to Vala libraries from applications
written in e.g. C# as the Vala parser is written as a library, so that
all compile-time information is available when generating a binding.

More information about Vala is available at

        http://live.gnome.org/Vala

The Vala Team

Hello,

The update of mousetweaks to version 2.25.2 has been released and can
be downloaded from:
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/mousetweaks/2.25/

50b5263588a48a6b55ae1744313d6d16  mousetweaks-2.25.2.tar.bz2

=======================
    What is mousetweaks ?
=======================

    The mousetweaks package provides the functions offered by the
    Accessibility tab of the Mouse control panel. It also contains
    two panel applets related to the mouse accessibility. More
    particularly:

     1. It offers a way to perform the various clicks without using any
        hardware button. In this context, the Dwell Click panel applet
        can be used to choose what click type to perform.

     2. It allows users to perform a secondary click by doing a
        click&hold of the primary mouse button.

     3. It provides the Pointer Capture panel applet. This applet creates
        an area on the panel into which the pointer can be captured until
        the user releases it with a predefined button and modifier
        combination.

=============
What is new ?
=============

Misc improvements/fixes:

        * Increase internal double click delay in dwell mode to
          make it compatible to gftp.

Bug fixes:

        #562212: Fix conflict when dwell click and simulated secondary
                 click are simultaneously running.

GLib 2.19.1 released

GLib 2.19.1 is now available for download at:

   ftp://ftp.gtk.org/pub/glib/2.19/
   http://download.gnome.org/sources/glib/2.19/

glib-2.19.1.tar.bz2 md5sum: 9309139a515408d9c99558d051c18302
glib-2.19.1.tar.gz  md5sum: eab90f5965f3d004b8787989be5cca85

This is the second development release leading up to GLib 2.20.

Notes:

* This is unstable development release. While it has had
   a bit of testing, there are certainly plenty of bugs
   remaining to be found. This release should not be used
   in production.

* Installing this version will overwrite your existing
   copy of GLib 2.18. If you have problems, you'll need
   to reinstall GLib 2.18.

* GLib 2.20 will be source and binary compatible with
   the GLib 2.18 series; however, the new API additions
   in GLib 2.19.0 are not yet finalized, so there may
   be incompatibilities between this release and the final
   2.20 release.

* Bugs should be reported to http://bugzilla.gnome.org.

About GLib
==========

GLib is the low-level core library that forms the basis for projects
such as GTK+ and GNOME. It provides data structure handling for C,
portability wrappers, and interfaces for such runtime functionality as
an event loop, threads, dynamic loading, and an object system.

More information about GLib is available at:

http://www.gtk.org/

An installation guide for the GTK+ libraries, including GLib, can
be found at:

http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/gtk/gtk-building.html

Overview of Changes from GLib 2.19.0 to GLib 2.19.1
===================================================

* GIO:
  - g_icon_to_string, g_icon_new_for_string: GIcon serialization support
  - G_FILE_ATTRIBUTE_PREVIEW_ICON: new file attribute for preview images
  - g_app_info_get_commandline: new function to get the full commandline
  - g_mount_shadow, g_mount_unshadow, g_mount_is_shadowed: New
functions
    to 'shadow' mounts (i.e. hide them from the UI when they already
    have a different representation, like a bookmark)

* Bugs fixed:
556186 gpoll.h breaks gmain.h inclusion
557087 mem leak in g_content_types_get_registered
558513 g_warn_if_fail FIXME in gtestutils
558672 NULL key lookup using g_hash_table_lookup_extended()
555740 gicon serialization

I am pleased to announce version 0.13.0 of the Python bindings for Goocanvas.

PyGooCanvas 0.13.0	(Nov 30 2008)
==================

o Update docs with new API. (Gian Mario)
o Update build system in order to compile on Windows (Armin Burgmeier)
o wrap new goocanvas.Canvas methods (Gian Mario)
o add goocanvas.Grid and goocanvas.GridModel (Gian Mario)

Blurb:
======

Goocanvas [1] is a canvas widget for GTK+, It is similar in many ways
to FooCanvas, hence the name, but it uses cairo for rendering, it has
an optional model/view split, and uses interfaces for items & views
(so
