Hi everyone,

does anyone have objections against archiving this mailinglist (and
maybe also the -users mailinglist) in Gmane (www.gmane.org)? I find the
nntp-interface that Gmane provides very convenient.

If noone objects within a few days, I'll add them to Gmane, so please
comment if you have objections.

Regards,
  Mika

I thought I'll explain what Gmane does against spammers, because
probably not everyone is familiar with that and it may be cause for concern.

The first part is that email addresses are obfuscated in the archived
postings. However the good thing is that they still work if the sender
passes a challenge-response scheme.

The other part is that in order to post to the list via NNTP you have
two choices (although I'm not 100% sure how the ML configuration plays
in here):
1) Posting allowed
2) Non-public (i.e. posting allowed for list members)

I would have gone for option 2), which means that you have to subscribe
to post through the NNTP or web interface (you can configure mailman not
to send you list mail).

I think this way it should be pretty safe from SPAM.

BTW, if one of the list moderators could get their hands on an mbox file
of the list archives that could also be imported into Gmane.

Since there were no objections I added opencvlibrary-devel and -users to Gmane
as non-public groups (i.e. you still have to subscribe to the list to be able to
post through Gmane).

gmane.comp.graphics.opencv.devel
(http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.comp.graphics.opencv.devel) should be created with
this message, the -users group will be created after the first post there...

Again, if anyone has the archives of this list as an mbox file or several email
files it would be great if I could get them to add the archives to the Gmane
group too.

Regards,
 Mika
