FE Parser and GML2/GML3

Hi all,

Playing with Parser and Filter Encoding I have a simple question concerning Parser configuration.

I'm looking for a generic way to handle both gml2 and gml3 included in filter I provide to my parser.
For that I can just define two parsers with specific configuration (ie filter.v1_1.OGCConfiguration for parser handling GML3, and filter.v1_0.OGCConfiguration for the other one).

But my question is how can I check second expression return in my filter cause if it's null I could try with other parser ?

Filter filter = (Filter) new Parser( new org.geotools.filter.v1_0.OGCConfiguration()).parse (new StringReader(my_FE_string_with_GML));

Any idea or other way to handle that ?

warnings when executing example SHP2SHP

Paul,
I think the problem is that you have multiple gt2_epsg_...jar libraries
in your build path and you are doing some coordinate transformation.
Have a look and keep only one - whichever you plan to use. the
PostgreSQL requires I think that you install Postgress too. I use the
hsql one, and an irregularly supported one is the WKT, I think. But I am
no expert...

I've creataed a project in eclipse, and pasted the code for the example SHP2SHP. Imported all jars existing for Geotools into the reference library.

This is about all I've done.

I am using the JAI.create and in fact I thought the TileCache should
be used by default. I also used the method you report above to specify
the tilecache and also set some more memory to it in order to be sure
that it is ok. But nevertheless also with very small images the thing
got triggered more than once.

But now that you take away my doubt about how it should be, I will try
to see if I can find where I do something wrong.

TileCache is something I would like to implement with a
"geomorphologic knowledge" at some point, but before I want to make
sure that the rest of things work :)

For GEOT-2193 we need to know whether the type of the geometric column is "geometry" or "geographic" since they use different functions for interaction. The idea is to have JDBCDataStore include the native type name as user data. Similar to how it stores the native srid info.

Calls to ShpFilesLocker.equals sometimes take a surprisingly long time, due to an internal call to URL.equals (which is known to be problematic in that sense). This has been fixed by calling URI.equals instead, if possible. A patch is provided to fix the issue, which tries to make as small an impact as possible to the current implementation.

The ShpFiles(File) constructor allows one to pass a File with an invalid patch such as "nowhere/test.shp". In this case, its initialization routine ends up calling findExistingFile(), which fails to see that the file's parent directory is non-existent - it assumes that file.getParentFile() should return null if the path is invalid. A patch is provided to fix the issue.

Well, if you look at the current code you'll see that the simplifying
filter visitor has been used only in JDBCFeatureStore.getFeatureReader.
There you can get the fid mapper, but as you have noticed, it's not
a general enough position, as it leaves out FeatureSource methods
such as bulk updates/deletes, and in general all writes.

Given that SqlEncoder is fid mapper away anyways your proposal to
expose the fid mapper in a getter sounds good, and solves the
above by allowing other places to benefit from the filter
simplification.

The best place to inject the fid mapper seems to be
JDBC1DataStore.getSqlBuilder(), but pay attention,
that method is overridden in most JDBC data stores.

Given the magnitude of this change I would be more comfortable
about:
- having someone review it
- commit it on 2.5.x only after GeoServer 1.7.1 is released

giving a run at simplifying filters for jdbc datastores (for instance, postgis)
I have some doubts on where it'd be best to do so, since I'm not an expert on
the jdbc datastores I thought I may use your thoughts once more to not mess it
up :)

So, we have this nice issue (http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOT-2182) about
wiping out invalid fids that aims to fix what seems to be a pretty common
mistake on WFS's, send a fid filter over typeName1 with a fid like
"typeName2.someting" and you'll still get a non empty result (I have seen the
defect on a commercial one).

But for jdbc ones I guess we should add a isValid(String fid):boolean method to
FIDMapper and then feed the SimplifyingFilterVisitor with an adaptor
FIDMapper->FIDValidator.
This way related things keep close instead of requiring a big switch statement
in order to decide which validation strategy is appropriate for a given
fidmapper.

Now, about where to apply this, for postgis I guess it would be at
DefaultSQLBuilder.splitFilter(Filter filter), but I couldn't find out where to
get the FIDMapper in use at this point. The closer I get to is that SQLBuilder

It make sense, the GridCoverage2D constructor may invokes some RenderedImage
that trigs the tile computation. However each tile should be computed only once,
unless there is no TileCache or the TileCache is full.

I would suggest to first make sure that there is a TileCache. The default tile
cache should be used automatically (if I remember well), but as a safety you can
specify it explicitly:

TileCache tc = JAI.getDefaultInstance().getTileCache();
RenderingHints hints = new RenderingHints();
hints.put(JAI.KEY_TILE_CACHE, tc);

and pass those hints to whatever "create" method you use for creating your
image. If you use the standard JAI.create method, it seems to me that the tile
cache hint should be added automatically. But if you instantiate your
PointOpImage directly, you may need to provide the tile cache hints yourself in
your RenderingHint map.

If you really have a TileCache, check if it is full (there is methods in
TileCache interface for checking the amount of bytes used).

Watch out axis order. If you are using EPSG:4326 as your source CRS, the
official axis order (according EPSG) is (latitude, longitude), not the other way
arround.

You can check which axis order you have with the following code:

System.out.println(sourceCRS);

and look at the order in which AXIS[...] element appears.

If you really want (longitude, latitude) axis order, use

sourceCRS = CRS.decode(sourceSys, true);
