Ganymede release: June 25

[Eclipse WebMaster (Denis Roy)]

Greetings,

Every year Eclipse has a very large release in June.  This year it's
called 'Ganymede', and it's happening June 25.  The release includes new
versions of Eclipse and about 20 popular Eclipse projects all at the
same time.

Eclipse.org has set up a Gigabit link to handle the load, and to allow
mirrors to sync up with us faster.

You may sync from ganymede-mirror2.eclipse.org effecive immediately.

If you are syncing from one of our Hubs in the USA or Europe, you can
continue to do so, or you can switch to
ganymede-mirror2.eclipse.org::eclipseMirror.

We will be delaying availability for 24 hours to allow our mirror sites
to sync up.  As soon as the last file is uploaded to us, on June 24, we
will post on this list inviting you to sync. If most of our mirrors are
up-to-date for the release, no one crumbles under the strain.

Hi all,

Just letting you guys know that our mirror
(eclipse.mirror.kangaroot.net) has a gigabit connection to the outside
world and is running on high-end hardware (separate SAN storage,
virtualized servers running all our mirror websites, ....)

We're more then just ready for this relaese, so feel free to point your
nameservers/URL's towards us if your mirror cannot handle the load the
first few days.

Just let me know if you plan to do so, I'll make sure your host/cname is
accepted on our apache servers to serve the right website etc. :-)

We're located in Belgium but have good connectivity all over Europe and
beyond...  So location doesn't matter too much for us.

Could you please change the rights on eclipse/releases/ganymede/staging.
It is right now 777 and I would prefer it if there are no world
writeable files on my mirror. Thanks!

That came from our file system ... Thanks for reporting it. I've removed
the world-writable bit.

Just to chip in into the discussion.

At what time (GMT) is scheduled the release to happen. And at what
time the announcement will be made? I personally preffer my mirror to
be synced and as of the moment i am talking for temporary BW increase
for the release. It will be prety helpfull if i have correct times so
i can minimise any impact on both servers, network and release.

Due to the number of files, I split the SDK downloads to a new page:

My apologies for the late change.  I was worried that the long list
would make it hard for people to find what they're looking for.  The 2
pages are linked, so people should be able to follow the original to the

When you get a chance, could someone change the Torrents link in the
eclipse.org downloads page left nav?  Pointing it to the new
torrent.ibiblio.org page may help people use P2P instead of direct download.
