G2 -> CVHi,
I'm planning to buy a Analogue Systems modular synth in the next few weeks. I'd like to sequence and control this to some degree using my G2, probably with and a Kenton Pro2000. I know I remember people talking about this back in the mists of time so I'd like to hear peoples experiences of doing this stuff. For example can you generate really snappy envelopes going G2 Midi -> CV converter? I'm guessing the midi data rate/resolution and voltage slew of the CV converter are the big factors in this. Also (and this is perhaps veering into off topic territory..) am I right in thinking a regular CV output from something like the Kenton be made to perform as a gate or trigger? i.e if you just send it a single pulse from the G2? Re: G2 -> CVHi Steven.
I am using a Doepfer MC24 for driving an analog modular system. I have no experience using it for snappy envelopes, but I guess it is related to the resolution of the midi/CV converter. And I have not noticed any problems using the Doepfer machine. The CV out can double as gate/trig out by biasing the G2 gare/trig out with a - 64 value from the constant module, using a two channel mixer. It works on the Doepfer interface, I guess it will do the same with the Kenton interface. I would recommend the Doepfer MC24 as a good piece of gear. It is has a intuitive interface, and internal LFOs and envelopes that can expand the number of modulation sources if you need. It can deliver Hz/volt (Metasonix VCO, for exemple) and has never shown any signs of trouble. It van be used for multi channel mono as well as polyphonic keyboard action. Re: G2 -> CVHi Per,
Thanks for your reply. Yeah I've been looking at the MCV24 and also the Encore Expressionist.. which certainly beat the Kenton in terms of outputs. I do like Kenton stuff though. The MCV24 doesn't come up for sale very often though. I had heard that the MCV24 had a fiddly interface, which obviously you don't agree with. Can the parameters of the MCV24 Envelopes and LFOs be modified by midi cc's? Re: G2 -> CVHi Steve.
I have never dived deep into those questions, as I have enough LFOs and Envelopes in the moduls. But the manual is for free download at www.doepfer.de so you can check it out. I have nothing but good things to say about the Doepfer MCV24, but in this world of gear, everybody seems to have an opinion. Maybe it comes from the Doepfer MAQ 16/4 sequencer, thas the worst interface I have ever met. It was som bad that I sold my mine, and bought an Analogue Systems Oberkorn II instead.
