if the "fink" command isn't letting you do it because of dependencies.  Then reinstall kpathsea4-shlibs.  Presumably you'll need to install either tetex or ptex, too.

Thanks.
It's a problem for me: I prefer to conserv the TeX distribution of G. Wierda. The fink princip of virtual package, and 'system-tetex' were a very good thing for me. But the project is'nt continued, and I've no time to re-install all.

Excuse me, but I give up installing evince. My problem appears after I
had installed a new fink distribution. But this problem and others
conduct me to re-install my old fink whith Time Machine.

But a new problem appears now whith update-all and system-tetex. I run
for long time 'remove system-tetex' ! How to delete it completely ?
Excuse me for my very bad english.

Wierda likes to move files around which resulted in system-tetex breaking on a regular basis.  The maintainer got sick of it, and therefore discontinued the system-tetex package.
