I did a quick download and test of the Linux version. No instant joy (some errors), but a promising start. Free Unlimited C compiler for PIC10/12/16 from Hi-Techhttp://microchip.htsoft.com/products/compilers/piccpro-modes.php
The very good PICC compiler from Hi-Tech now has a Lite mode with no code size limitation. The optimization limit may make this useless for commercial use but it might be a good choice for hobbyists and small volume commercial use. Candies for free :-) It was a good idea I think - and according to your stats it thought by others too :-) Anyway, is there any study about code size and speed impact of the different code optimalization vs. lite edition? Like if you would have a set of testing algorithms, mathematical ones, and couple of typical examples of firmwares compiled with different optimalizations and without using the free. You can expect that when all optimizations are turned on (PRO mode), it will produce code that is half the size of Lite mode. There was a comparison of PRO mode with other compilers and mentioned in a press release which was picked up by numerous news sites: http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS118283+15-Apr-2008+MW20080415 > Like if you would have a set of > testing algorithms, mathematical ones, and couple of typical examples of > firmwares compiled with different optimalizations and without using the > free. > > The compiler has been put through an extensive beta trial and it's been tested it on as many sample programs as we could get. We think that Lite mode is a worthwhile solution for those looking for a low-cost solution, and we're happy to hear any feedback you may have. What we don't want is a free compiler that is so crippled that nobody uses it. -- Matt Luckman Chief Technical Officer HI-TECH Software Pty Ltd www.htsoft.com -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist |
