[Sculptor] natural key and enums

Hi,

I am trying to test the equals() and hashCode() functionality in Sculptor right now. From reading the documentation, I know that the behavior is governed by setting certain fields in my objects as "key".

Now, I have an object that contains a BigDecimal and an enum. Both of these fields would logically make a composite natural key. However, the DSL validator complains when I set the enum as "key". Can you explain the reason for this error message?

moment, the server isn't responding with any particular error code.
It's just sitting there swirling.

Ah, that's the kind of hidden problem that I was hoping to find sooner than later. I will stick to ValueObjects or use composition with BasicTypes instead.

Strange. As far as I can see it should not be generated if you skipped it in the transformation. I have changed things in this area recently to support multi levels of subclasses. Are you using latest trunk?

For the foreign key reference column name, I didn't realize you could assign those column names. Worked like a charm.

These attributes are added on the fly by the Transformation. You can replace that transformation by using an around of the transformation extension as described earlier.

It is the the extension named addAuditable that you need to replace. I think I have read somewhere that it is not possible to intercept JAVA extensions and if that is a problem you can intercept the extension named modifyAuditable instead. See Transformation.ext.
You have to invoke your own Java helper class and do something similar to GenerationHelper.addAuditable, but set the databaseColumn of the attributes.

Aren't you using <table name>_ID for the surrogate id (id attribute)? UUID is not the same as ID.

I have some objects that I want to be generated as Hibernate components, so it seems that BasicType is the perfect choice. However, I also need these domain objects to use inheritance. The Sculptor DSL does not seem to support that right now. Can you explain the reason? It seems like a simple change that I can make, but I would like to know if you foresee this change causing all kinds of problems.

[Sculptor] tip for navigating the ext and xpt source files

I just thought that I would post a couple of helpful tips that I discovered when working with Sculptor source code. I didn't see these written down, so maybe this will help someone else.

1. When you're browsing the ext and xpt files in Eclipse, the right-click menu doesn't show the Open Declaration option, but you can put your cursor over a method call and type "F3". That navigates you to the right source file and method. It saved me tons of time and pain after I figured this out.

2. If you're writing some ext or xpt code, the code completion (Ctrl-Space) is awesome. That's pretty much the only way I was able to muddle through my customizations in the beginning. ;)

I edited the project properties and removed that filter the rest of it
was found.

Start with building sculptor-parent (run mvn clean install).
Refresh.
Thereafter you should not have any errors.
If you change the grammar (.xtext) you will have to run generate.oaw in sculptor.dsl project

Having problems building the dsl editor in trunk

I open the org.fornax.sculptor.dsl project in eclipse and run the
generate.oaw workflow

The org.fornax.sculptor.dsl.editor project contains hundreds of errors
- mostly because its seems that it can't find many of its dependencies.

Am I doing something wrong?

Yes,
If you have the plugin-projects in your workspace, export them (just mark one of them and press File->export) to your eclipse installation directory and restart eclipse.

I am not using these classes for persistence (I just need to be able to model and generate the domain objects correctly), but we could name the tables in the format "<module>_<domainObject>.
