Woohoo! I made it! I just got through my inspection with Connecticut Motor
Vehicle and PASSED! Ran right up to the office and got my plate. Though I
have a lot more to do, my car is now legal. Besides having all the basics in
order, lights; suspension, wipers, etc, they really just want to make sure
the car is safe and sturdy. From the EV perspective they looked to see that
the wiring neat and tidy, no leakage from pack to body, and the weight is in
order.

Thanks for all your help over the years it took me to get here.

Dave Cover, legally driving an EV in CT.

PS Vanity plate comes next, but I'm not talking 'til I have it. Don't want
to jinx it.

Congratulations  Dave!
I have neglected my list obligations lately so that I have not announced
formally that my Saturn station wagon is also finally street legal. Got to
show it off at The NEEAA last Saturday. Drove 50 miles round trip, topped it
off with my own charger at Bob's for a couple of hours. The only problem was
that I discovered that my DC/DC converter is not working at all: limped into
bob's driveway with the speedo dancing around and coasted up to the charging
station with a dead 12 volt. I have emailed Electro Automotive for a
replacement converter (Curtis) but without any response for a week now.
We'll see what happens.

Good going Dave!

That must be a relief to get that through. I know you've been working
hard to make it compliant.

Richard, I've heard that if you fax Electro Automotive they respond
sooner. That was something I heard from someone who has ordered
adaptor plates from them. Not sure what their fax number is though.

{P} Electric motor brands?

by Peter Shabino :: Rate this Message:

Reply to Author | View Threaded | Show Only this Message

Ok spring has finally returned to the great frozen north and I can work in my garage again :)

Getting to the point where I need to buy my motor before I can make much more progress.
Looking for a motor in the 9" 120~144V size range (for a Fiero)

Know of the following brands:
NetGain
Advanced DC
Kostov

Any other common brands I missed?

Also need recommendations on places to look for them (new or used).

Thanks,
Peter

Hello Peter,

Contact our supreme DC motor guy, Jim Husted at hi_torque_electric@...

If he does not have it, he can build it.

Roland

Congratulations.

I just got back from the Mass registry of motor vehicles with a plate
and registration.
Next step is the safety inspection. Wish me luck.

John

IN your garage???.  I don't even have a garage, and it was only this weekend
that my EV glider got unfrozen from the 12" glacier that had frozen the
frame to the ground (note to self, next winter, don't park any vehicles
where water will flow under them when the sun comes out).  I'm pulling the
motor and tranny out (of the back of the truck where they've been stored)
tomorrow to take them down to a machine shop to get put together.

Doesn't GE also make series DC motors... if you are looking for older used
ones you might come upon some of them.

There was just recently a post on where to buy EV parts, which listed just
about every retailer than I knew of.  Ebay is a good place.... if you know
exactly what you are looking for, and how to tell what it is even when the
seller doesn't necessarily know.

Good luck with the safety inspection. If it's just lights, wipers and the
like you should be all set. So long as you aren't too overweight. I lived in
Mass for a few years. IIRC they don't weigh you or run you across one of
those brake testing machines. Let us know how it turns out.
