Since US Federal Courts seem to be accepting e-mail as a legitimate
method of notifying people, should US Federal Court judges be concerned
about potential phishing-like emails issued under their orders or what
information is being collected such as social security numbers,
birthdates, etc.
Although these are probably legitimate, but you have to take the word of
third-parties because you are warned not to contact the court to verify
the information. Even the parties involved know its is relatively easy
to create other web sites with nearby domain names. For example,
annualcreditreport.com versus freecreditreport.com.
If these types of e-mail notifications are going to become common, should
US Federal Courts consider rules or recommended procedures to minimize
the potential phishing of the public.
