I've also submitted a feature enhancement request to compliment the
existing 'Spam' button:

to figure out how to add the existing 'Spam' button feature to the
new.php page! However, I can't seem to find out how to do this, given
that both mailbox.php and new.php call exactly the same function,
namely hm_print_message_controls() from html_functions.php. I'm
obviously missing something?
As Jason already knows, I have little experience with php, so be kind!
I'm no programming slouch though and am familiar with C++, C and Perl,
so no need to be too kind ;)
