Feature Request: Account/Category Groups

I am looking to have account groups that do not contain their own transactions but are mearly summaries of all accounts below them.

I think this is the same as Feature Request 1501192, but I'm not sure. It appears that previous discussion just died (no response from person making request). Is this something that would be considered, or has it already been discounted.

Example:

Every month I put $100 in shoe box. I plan on using my shoebox savings to buy a car, a boat, and fishing rod. In Kmymoney2 I have an assett account called "Shoebox". As I save up, I place money in each of the 3 sub accounts, but never in the account called shoebox directly; all funds must be allocated.

The group account would always report the total amount in the Shoebox (so I can count it and make sure it balances), but I can always drill down and see where the funds have been allocated (maybe I have enough to buy one of them).

When I read this, I was thinking that this is exactly how KMyMoney organizes
stock and investment accounts. So I gave it a try and used an Investment
account and a bunch of 'stock' accounts. The investment account I called
Shoebox and the stocks are named after the items I want to save money for.

Since I am not much into fishing, in the example I save for a car and a
motorcycle. Attached is a KMyMoney file that has that as an example.

Play with it and see if that is what you need. Comments welcome.

Exactly my thoughts. And reports, ledger, summary, etc. are already adapted to the way investments work, so there is, I think, nothing to be done. The same features by other name.

Huh... Hadn't thought of that. I'll play with it over the weekend (at
the office right now) and see how that works.
