How to update FarCry 5.0 to 5.0.1?

I installed farcry community 5.0.0 about 3 weeks ago by using the
downloaded Zip file located here:

http://www.farcrycms.org/go/download

I am finding some minor issues and rather than posting the bugs I
figured I'd download the latest build after receiving a very nice post
by Jeff on his blog here: http://www.jeffcoughlin.com/blog/index.cfm/2008/1/31/FarCry-50-Beta-Released

Version 5.0.1 you say? Excellent! So I downloaded it from Jeff's
download page located here. Even though it says 5.0.0, it does say
nightly build so I'll trust that this is where I get it.

OK, so assuming I'm correct in thinking that I now have the latest
build, how do I update? Do I just copy everything into the core and
overwrite what is there? Am I going to have to go in and edit
anything?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and Jeff, if you are reading
this, thanks very much for what you do for the FarCry community!

John and Luis,

If you're using FarCry 5, you can export the project and the entire
database using the new skeleton tool (which exports all of the data
for you). Then on the destination server, copy the project (and the
skeleton data) into the skeletons folder. Install the site and when
you get to the skeleton selection screen, choose the skeleton you
created. It will import all of the data from your old server into
your new database.

Please keep in mind that there is one minor bug/error in this process:
the skeleton tool doesn't currently export/import the Friendly URL
table data (for more details: http://bugs.farcrycms.org/browse/FC-1371).

The approval email is sent once the user requests approval -- any
delay in the delivery is likely due to something in the set up of CF
or the associated SMTP.

Not sure how this could happen -- its certainly not expected
behaviour. Please raise an issue here, with specific steps to

You should not be able to edit a locked content item. And only
someone with the ability to approve the content or is the existing
user who locked the content, should be able to unlock the content item
for editing.

Please raise an issue here, with specific steps to reproduce and we'll
prioritise a fix:

It's not an issue we're aware of -- doesn't mean its not happening
though ;) Please raise issues as you find them in the bug tracker.
The more reports we have for a specific problem, the quicker we can
hunt it down.

Anyone using the approval system?

If so, have you experienced any inconsistent behavior with it?

We've been running into some problems with a site we built for a
client in Farcry 4 and later upgraded to 5 (this has happened in
both).

Approval requests and notifications are extremely inconsistent,
sometimes arriving as much as a day late, sometimes not at all.

Our client complains of submitting items for approval and having all
the Contributor's changes vanish if the Publisher opens and edits the
document rather than simply sending it live.

Most worrying, in testing this, we can log in in multiple browsers as
different users and overwrite each other's changes on the same
document dozens of times without any indication that the document is
even supposed to be locked. This doesn't seem dependent on hierarchy -
a Contributor can overwrite a SysAdmin as easily as the opposite can
happen.

We've been able to reproduce this behavior regularly enough that we're
certain it wasn't a one-time fluke, but not reliably enough to report
it as a bug, as the same steps usually produce no problem at all.

Just wondering if anyone else has encountered anything similar and if
so, was there a fix?

Did you take a look at the FarCry User Guide (wiki)? http://docs.farcrycms.org/display/FCUSER40/Home

Give that a shot and see if it helps.

FarCry End-User Manual?

Hello,

I just installed 5.0. I've read many good things about FarCry and so
I wanted to give it a try.

I'm probably just blind but I can't seem to find any pdf or other web-
based how-to guide with all the features of the CMS.

Is there a how-to document out there? Even if it's not in 5.0 because
it's still in beta, maybe a 3.0 or a 4.0 version? I'm a bit lost on
how to actually use the CMS which means I KNOW my client won't be able
to use it.

How to add navigational sections, how to add pages, how to turn on RSS
for the site, Change the layout, what files are safe to modify for
look and feel, and what files are not, how to add users and what the
different groups and privileges are. How to manage versioning.

Just a basic Users Manual for the average department head to read?

Any light you can shed on the subject would be much appreciated. I
have a small client who wants a CMS but I need to be able to hand them
something to get up and running with quickly.

sorry, one clarification. The path I posted my sitemap was /cms/www not "/csm/www".

I created a site map for my farcry site (cms.childrenschoirofburlington.ca). I place the sitemap.xml file on both the /csm/www root and the /www levels of my site. However, it doesn't appear that google has viewed this site file. Here is my sitemap.xml content. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

1. Updating eg V 5.00 to 5.01
are there any improvements/advancements to this ...

2. Ref help Section.
Would it be possible to add a link in the admin to a (world global/
local server) version of help for each section of the site, we did
something similar for a site and it would be good if this as an
inclusion/add-on.

3. Add-ons
Is there or have you thought of a (wish list/in progress) list of
add-ons,
for those who need to sell there add-on they could sell through Facry
giving you a commission?.

FarCry 5.0 is pretty much complete -- we're awaiting the outcome of
current licensing change deliberations [1]. We expect this to be
resolved before the end of May, and the official release of the

textures in editor

when i make a caves using rocks, generating surface texture 2048x2048 or better, the texture under rocks looks like this:

but when just 512x512 or 1024x1024, its fine..
whats the problem, please?

Hey Mark,

I've taken this over to the dev group but I've had no response at
all... I have tried copying the dmImage.cfc to the local types folder
but it seems to still be picking up the properties from the core
dmImage.cfc any ideas as to why this is?

Actually, you'd need to switch it from createobject(). If they aren't
going to relax the "no createobject" policy, switch hosts. Given that
there are almost 900 calls to createobject in just the core alone, you'd
have to spend a lot of time switching it over to cfinvoke. It wouldn't
be a simple find and replace. For each object created by the
createobject call, you'd need to search for that object further down the
line and replace every .<something> call with another cfinvoke. You
would also end up with a core that is not easily updated, and would
involve similar work for each revision in the framework. This also
doesn't take into account projects, plugins, webskins, etc. Gearhost,
Hostnexus, HostMySite, all offer affordable shared hosting, and all of
them have better support techs (just going by conversations at the
houseoffusion) than GoDaddy.

OK I have managed to locate where I can change these settings but it's
within one of the core files which is dmImage.cfc but if I change the
default settings there it will be the same for all applications
running from that core. Is there an alternative method to changing
these settings for solely a site instance??? or do I need to create a
new component but extending dmImage.cfc???

Unfortunately, this is a restriction on the ColdFusion server that
your host has applied that prevents code from executing createObject
or cfobject. These calls are the basis of any object oriented
application in ColdFusion -- you must have access to make these calls
in order to run the FarCry framework (any many others for that
matter). You're only options are to talk to you host to have the
restriction removed, or to move to a new host.

You're not likely to want to hear this, but you're going to need to
switch hosts or... get a dedicated VPS from GoDaddy. From watching CF-
Talk traffic, GoDaddy is one of the more restrictive shared hosts.

This is a very important security precaution. By default you can only
install from localhost -- otherwise you might accidentally leave the
installer accessible to external users. It's easily addressed.

What you need to do is open up the ./core/webtop/install/
Application.cfm template and add you IP address to the list of allowed
IPs. Save the file, and then try again.

For example,
<cfset lAllowHosts = "127.0.0.1,198.231.24.241" />

since you've been so kind to start me off can i ask one more thing?

I got the Fortress folder copied onto my GoDaddy Shared hosting and
now when i try to install it the page displays this:

Please contact the website administrator.

The following information is meant for the website developer for
debugging purposes.

Error Occurred While Processing Request

Your IP address (198.231.24.241) is not permitted to access the
install directory.

any idea on what to do here?

I have been attempting to change the sizing of the thumbnails
generated by the image plugin and also to change the colour of the
padding. I have tried changing the width and height value within the
Admin->Config Files->Image and then changing the values
THUMBNAILHEIGHT, THUMBNAILIMAGEHEIGHT, THUMBNAILIMAGEWIDTH and
THUMBNAILWIDTH to differing values from the default and neither seem
to change anything... Any suggestions?

Couple of recommendations.

For installation and development issues its better to use the farcry-
dev forum:

(note: farcry-user is for users/authors/contributors not developers)

You should be comfortable installing this locally before trying on a
remote system that you will have considerably less control over. It
will pay dividends in the long run.

If you want to install on a shared host you really ought to be trying
FarCry 5.0 release candidate -- the only reason its release has been
delayed is a pending license change decision. The FarCry v5 release
(code name Fortress) has been specifically designed to install in
shared hosts:

(note: your godaddy host cannot have an existing FarCry ColdFusion
mapping in place)

If you are referring to the /farcry ColdFusion mapping then this would
have to be done by an administrator at GoDaddy. Much better to try
the v5 release.

New to FarCry and would love to give it a shot. First off my PC
didn't want to install everything so I am now trying to get FarCry
installed on my GoDaddy Shared Hosting Account.

I have the Cold Fusion support paid for. I also have a MySQL Database
setup and the Cold Fusion DSN setup on that Database as well.

In the FarCry instructions for install I need to do a Directory
Mapping. Anyone know how this would be done on the GoDaddy system?
After that I think I have it made but that is the only thing that is
slipping me up and sadly GoDaddy Customer Support has never heard of
FarCry.
