Sorry I was not asking for a solution..I was potentially offering one.
At least one that suits me and therefore probably quite a few other
who dont really want a j2ee server but a normal one with apache front
end.

Not sure what we can offer as a solution -- this appears to be a J2EE
issue and not a FarCry issue.

Search being removed from standard skeleton installer:

And the Verity plugin will be available for 5.0 shortly. No plans for
a BlueDragon plugin just yet -- though now that search is a separate
plugin, someone can probably copy the the Verity plugin and build an
OpenBD specific solution.

Whoops, just saw on the FC5 docs site (hidden on the right) that
Verity has been moved to an external plugin. I am guessing that means
it can be replaced with some other engine/tool. Is there anything
available yet?

Geoff,
I am conversing with the guy who issued the VMWare image with the hope
of getting some practical data for setting up a regulat CF-like
multiple site sever on linux that runs a single copy of the bluedragon
application with apache handoffs in a similar manner to the adobe
product. Whilst this is different to the J2EE oriented approach of
seaprate tomcat instances for each site, my VPS does not have enough
memory for that and I doubt others will either!!

Sirs

I notice that in a default install of FC5 the search fails (either CF
or OpenBD) due to a missing template. I copied displayPageStandard as
the missing displayDefault that the search object was looking for.

Whilst this is probably trivial it made me look at the underlying
search since as I expected the search baulked. Where is the verity
setup and how will the this marvellous search function work on
openBluedragon?

oh man, I wend and tagged the wrong file.

So I now have them tagged correctly, but I can not see the the verity plugin webskin
This is because project takes precidence over plugins

So I renamed the project _search.cfm (updatedapp=1)
and then I can select the plugin search

And it works :-)

However, this is the form from the verity plugin admin,
so it would probable be best to copy the plugin include files to your project and then tweak the forms / interface to suit your project.

I am working on it now. As it happens my vps on openhost.co.nz is
running Centos 5.2 which means this is very pertinent to me and it
means I hopefully can mix and match my PHP and cfml.

I am experimenting with the following:

1. Tomcat on its own. Some people think this is fine is fine and
Vhosts are possible but forget automation if you administer with Plesk
or Virtualmin. Apache thought to be better for serving flat files and
images plus you get the mod_rewrite and other goodies which are pretty
vital.

2. Mixed tomcat with apache front end (all files routed to tomcat)

3. Tomcat and apache with mod_jk and handoff only for relevant files
such as cfc/cfm.

The above with shared tomcat rather than separate tomcat instances
since most of use are not running with enought resources for that and
have control of our servers anyway so security not such an issue

Lastly, Jboss Web. Just started. Railo 3.1 is not ready to evaluate
like this yet and it too apparently will not have a nice admin
interface - just like OpenBlueDragon.

Will report as soon as practical.

In the verity plugin admin, there is a test search in the Search Utilities section.

Try your search there
if it works, you can then see what that does, then implement that into your project

once Farcry pics up the new plugin
it will do all the creation the webtop stuff

In farcry 4 you have to go into the COAPI and deploy the verity types
I think this will be the case in v5 as well

This is what I have in _serverSpecificVars.cfm

OpenBluedragon VMWARE Image Problem Found

I have tried for ages to get Farcry installed on the ubiquitous VMWARE
image of openbluedragon. See previous posts showing bizarre java
error.

I eventually discovered that the java the tomcat5 install was using
was libgcj or GNU java and not the sun offering. In the meanwhile I
had changed to tomcat6 (for the sake of it really)

Dare I say it but some info about installing and recognising java was

A tomcat6 rpm package is available on

You might want to
"yum remove tomcat" first.

Then you will have to work on owners and permissions a bit to get
farcry to install. This tomcat rpm sets "tomcat" as owner and I had to
barn door it so farcy could create files. Work in progress.
