FW: The Evolution of Language - neural pattern matching to analogy formationHi All,
I have added the following abstract to my new pages starting with: http://members.iimetro.com.au/~lofting/myweb/formation.html "From a focus on the derivation of categories of meaning from the oscillations of our brains across a dichotomy of WHAT/WHERE, aka differentiating/integrating, a discovery has been made in reference to the evolution of language from mediation dynamics where we move from basic category formation to the ability to make analogies using the derived categories. This step reflects the communication of details of categories through distinctions of patterns of sameness and difference by the use of analogy to other categories and so brings out the beginnings of language. What is noteworthy is that these analogies are 'hard coded' into the methodology of deriving meaning from self-referencing. Furthermore, we see here the requirement for some depth in category making before language can emerge. An additional observation is that the adaptation of our brains to light has brought out a bias to our visual system in information processing. In this adaptation our eyes cover a dichotomy of fovea/para-fovea. The fovea is focused on details, on differentiating, as is our para-fovea (surrounds the fovea and so brings out the emergence of details processing from the middle) more focused on edge detections and so pattern matching and generic differentiating to enable strong integrating to form patterns. The identified focus on pattern matching equates with the use of analogy-making and metaphorcation as properties of generic meaning-derivation. The IDM work on self-referencing clearly brings out the derivation of analogy from self-referencing of an asymmetric dichotomy as is done by the neurology in the processing of information. " IMHO this is a BIG step in understanding the development of language from the neurology in that such a dynamic has not been identified before to the level of clear categories and analogies. Chris ----------------------------- generic categories of meaning: ------------------------------ Objects bias (differentiating): BLEND - wholeness, whole numbers BOUND - partness, rational numbers Relationships bias (integrating): BOND - share space, irrational numbers BIND - share time, imaginary numbers >From these come composites as reals, complex, quaternions, octonions. All else follows.... http://members.iimetro.com.au/~lofting/myweb/introIDM.html _______________________________________________ This is the alicebot-general mailing list Reply to alicebot-general@...
