FS: Eton E5/Grundig G5 Portable Shortwave Radio

I got this Eton E5 (also sold by Grundig as the G5) back in January, and
used it for maybe 10 hours total before I got a couple of bigger "desktop"
shortwave receivers.

Brand-new mint condition, with original box, case, manual, wall wart, and
longwire antenna.  This is regarded as one of the best portable SW
receivers made nowdays.

With just the built-in antenna, I was able to pick up the HAARP skywave
propagation tests from Alaska back in January (and I'm in Houston).

Amazon sells the radio for $150.  I'd like to get $100 (shipping included)

Kenwood TS-430, AT-250 antenna tuner, and PS-430 power supply.  I'm one
accessory (the SP-430 external speaker) away from having the entire set.

It's got a couple of minor age-related issues, but I'm going to get the rig
tweaked, tuned, and fixed up for a flate rate of less than $200 once I pass
my General upgrade.

I was studying for it in the middle of February when Amy had to go into the
hospital and then my dog died; I've not touched it since then and need to
pick it back up.

So, the E5 has just been sitting in its case gathering dust on my desk for
almost four months.  I'd rather see it go to a good home than just sit
there.

I have one. Except for the tuner. The biggest problem you will have with it
is that the relay contacts get dirty and they receive sensitivity goes way
down. It's a simple fix, look up the ts-430 ameteur service bullitens on
kenwood's website.

One symptom of it is that the problem goes away if you transmit.

If my memory still works, :-) you can download the service manual from
mods.dk.

Sure, but what does it need? Since I've owned mine, circa 1994 (got it
used), I've added an FM board, AM and CW filter and did the ASB fix for
the receive problem. It's still working fine. I also did the AM sensitivity
mod, but it was a waste here.

BTW, the speaker is not very good. You may want to buy a better speaker
and stuff it in the case if you get one.

I was glad to hear that she is out and doing well. Sorry about the dog.

Yep, this is one of the fixes included in the $200 complete fix-and-tune-up
I'm going to have done.

Basiscally I'm going to send it off and have it completely checked out,
serviced, and have any needed mods/fixes/tweaks done so that I have a
"known good" rig to start out with.  The previous owner said that this one
has a minor problem of occasional distorted audio on transmit, which is a
known problem/known fix.

RACAL
receiver that died recently and would really like to get fixed.

Or, maybe someone can recommend a shop that repairs RACAL.
