Escort manual steering

I have run into a snag with my conversion. I asked my mechanic to find me a
manual steering rack for the 98 Ford Escort. He shopped all his autowrecker
places and he was told that the 98 Escort model did not come with a manualk
sterring option, ergo none are available.

What do I do about this?
Are there 3rd party parts for this?

Werner

I'm going to take a wild stab at this. Later Escorts share the same
parts from Mazda, notably suspension and brakes. Not sure about
steering parts. But they share some of those parts as well.

You can check out the Performance Ford Escort Blog sites. I can't
remember which one it was but one enterprising individual on the
Performance Ford Escort site went through and cross referenced tons
of Mazda parts that would fit on the Escorts. But I can't recall now
which site that was.

Mine is an 86 and came with Rack and Pinion steering. If all else
fails you could go with an older model set up. It may take some
fabrication work.

If you cannot find one from another vehicle that can be adapted, this company
will make whatever rack-and-pinion unit you want.
