Error in uploading 11111-1111 in database as zipcode

Hi,
I am facing a problem in my application, In my application I am uploading an excel sheet with fist_name,last_name,email and zipcode , In my case if I use 5digit zipe code than it is taking otherwise it is not taking 9digit number so plz explain why this is happing
