Hi all,

has anybody moored in Epinal in recent years (or even presently) for a prolonged time
and kind enough to share his/her experience (pro and cons) please.

RE:  has anybody moored in Epinal in recent years......

We moored there for about 3 months in the summer of 2006 leaving our boat
unoccupied to return to the UK for about 2 months.  It's a very nice spot.
About a 20 minute walk to the town centre.  A few small shops are within 10
minutes walk (including a fantastic Cave).

The harbour master (from memory Joanni Touzalet) lives on board his own
barge unforgettably named Exocet.  He and his wife are extremely helpful but
his English is rather limited.

I can't remember the cost but it was not unreasonable for such a location.
Water and electricity are available within the mooring fee.  The south side
of the harbour is quieter as far as road noise is concerned but subject to
the intense scrutiny of promenaders and the noise of families using the
park.

Access to the basin is via a long cut at the bottom of a flight of (from
memory) 12 locks that descend northwards from the high point on the Canal
des Vosges.  The cut can be shallow in the summer but there is (was) a VNF
office at the entrance to the cut who I feel sure would advise or even fill
the cut if needed.  On departure from Epinal they ask you to call the VNF
office if you are heading north so they can man the lock.

Hope this helps
