Envelope Control via Side Chain?

I'd like to control the envelope of one channel's sound using a
different (the side-chain) channel's signal.  Is there a way to do
this in Linux?  Ideally, the solution would work with Ardour.  But,
I'll take what I can get.

Thanks....

i will usually accomplish something like this with the aid of pd ... write a little dynamics-processing patch (ducking or gating or ...) in pd, then use jack and the appropriate sends and returns to & from ardour to get sound to it. works great and will all work in linux, though it assumes some casual ability with pd-programming.

as far as i know, sidechain processing is still on ardour's 'to do' list?

I don't know pd.  But, I'm good with shell and perl and command-line.
Is there a quick-start guide for pd, or a how-to for specific tasks
in pd?

OK.
