I haven't toyed with it, but this maven plugin sounds like something
we could use for our builds on the 1.3.x branch:
http://mojo.codehaus.org/clirr-maven-plugin/

Anyone interested in setting our build up like this?

Clirr is what we use at Apache Commons to check binary compatibility.
It has worked well for us.
