Ecb layout types

Hello list,

what is the reason behind ecb providing 'left 'right' and 'top
but not 'bottom as a layout type? I could imagine that interaction
with a layout buffer might be problematic but I would like to use
ecb in a setup where there won't be any compilation output.

TIA Ralf Mattes

You mentioned already the reason: ECB does not support "bottom" layouts
because the bottom is reserved for compilation/grep/help or what ever
informations which have to displayed even when a user doens't use
a "durable" compile-window....

This was a design decision quite at beginning of ECB and this will not
be changed in any future...

What would be the advantages of "bottom"-layouts compared to left/right
or top ones?

Ciao
Klaus
