Earth zoom to city street

Hey all, I know there's been quite a few of you who've either done demo's, tutorials or even projects where by you zoom in from outer space and use Google imagery/api's etc.

I'm a total noob and haven't even looked into doing this and I have a client that wants to produce something like this.  I was wondering if anyone has any links, api's, information, tutorials or who'd be willing to share the "how to's" of this already done area of PV3D stuff?

any and all help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks very much,

John

for archive sake:

http://www.afcomponents.com/components/umap_as3/

Free as3 component that supports Microsoft maps and open maps as well as allows you to use your own maps.  Some great tutorials it looks like as well.  Anyone used this?

I used it about 6 months ago, and it was great until afcomponents went
offline -- it seems they proxy the images through their servers...

You should check to see if this is still the case.

excellent, thanks Lance - thankfully, this client is providing all the imagery secured through another provider, so I'm hoping we can marry the 2 up without a hitch

John,

I have a Flash virtual globe called EarthBrowser which was originally written in PV3D but since changed to my own specialized engine design.
There is a simple demo at http://www.earthbrowser.com/media/ebtest/

I did a "tech talk" at Google last week about some of it's capabilities:

My source dataset doesn't go down to the street level, but if your client has his own imagery it is very easy to integrate another tile source.

If this is of interest, please contact me mgiger at earthbrowser dot com.

Thanks.

Hi John,

We was checking the component some months ago for a project we have for a client. Althought we thought the component was pretty well done could be just the perfect solution at a first sight we end not using it due to the fact that we can't get a clear response from the guys at AFC about the possibility to purchase the code. We can't afford an scenario where we get a limitation or a bug and can't navigate the source code to solve it.
If you don't have this problem I think it's a very good component.

just my 2 cents :)
