ERROR: cannot build because sizeof(long) == 8 != 4

Hi, when I configure on 64-bit Ubuntu Linux + gcc 4.1 I get:

...
checking for long... yes
checking size of long... 8
ERROR: cannot build because sizeof(long) == 8 != 4

Let me know if any further information would be useful. Thanks in
advance for any hints.

Cyclone doesn't work on 64 bit architectures right now, I believe.  
There are several places in the code generator and runtime system  
that assume 32-bit words.  If someone is willing to attempt a 64-bit  
port, I suspect the core developers watching this list could provide  
some support ...
