A useful reference. In practice, and over several thousand shots in the last year, with my 5D, I've only observed the light fall-off when doing tests specifically looking for it. The effect seems totally absent (!) when I check out my 17-35 EX HSM Sigma (original model). Don't know why - the AF motor on the Sigma has failed so my usable widest is the EF 20 f2.8, which can be horrific at f2.8 on some shots, and less so on others. My current gripe with my 5D is that the central AF spot is ever so slightly lower than the rectangle marker in the viewfinder. Has lead to quite a few out of focus shots (similar to front focusing, which it isn't) of small birds against near glancing angle backgrounds such as paths etc. Malcolm Milton Keynes, UK * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm *********************************************************** |

I've also dusted off my EOS 3 and shot similar scenes with that camera. and checked the critically sharp hit rate. Like an idiot I used negative film which I thought I could assess under a microscope - not as well as I need, so I'll probably repeat using slide film. In the mean time, I am surprised by the high price of used 1D MkII* and N variant bodies - in the case of an N rather too close to the latest prices for a totally new camera, with a full year's warranty. *Although I did chase after one at £900 for a few days. Backed out as I became very suspicious of the seller's real intentions.
