Hi All,

So just an update that I am beginning this work. So far it is fun. I
enjoy projects like this.

I am still finalizing a blog based website to blog my work with RSS.

I know there has been some debate about usage of the Intel Compilers.
I was wondering if we could raise $172.00 in donations so I could
purchase a license for OS X. Intel has offered to throw in the support
and maintenance gratis and even let me correspond with an Engineer for
6 months to make sure I am set with using their toolset. They are
providing resources on maintaining GCC compatibility as well. I know
this is not a lot of money,  but when you are starting a charitable
foundation to hand out school bags to kids that cannot afford them,
every penny helps.

At this point I can only accept Paypal, but my US Merchant Interface
should be finished soon. If you can donate, please let me know and I
will provide my PayPal address.

Thanks everyone.

-Jason

This is news to me. I did not realise you were short of money, or I
would have spoken up sooner. I don't think any of us will feel
comfortable taking your time for free when you are short of money. A
programmer of your ability should not go short of money on anyone's
account, let alone ours. Please look after yourself first, and then
worry about us and our dreams of a Cocoa port.

Yours, Kevan

I am fine on my living money, etc. Please do not get that impression.
My life is not about being filthy rich. My fiance works.

Sorry to give that impression.

The TCL/TK port is beneficial and I want to do it!

Well good luck. I hope it works out better than Pepper.

Pepper worked out great. Just not in the way I had anticipated.
individuals using Pepper comprised almost nothing sales wise, but
licensing to companies was a whole lot better. I just licensed the
source to a database company for use in its editor. I am also working
to get a better linux version as that is really in demand now.

Really? Did you ever release a Mac version after the first Pepper X
that was more of a rebadge than any fundamental code change? I'd love
to hear a yes but I'm pretty sure it's a no. I'm still using
Hekkleman's Pepper 4.0.6 and wishing it were a bit more stable or
that there was a good replacement (not that I want this to degenerate
into editor wars; I know about TextMate, BBEdit, TextWrangler, Eddie,
SubEthaEdit, Coda, Smultron, AquaEmacs, AquaVI and various IDEs and
have used some of them extensively)

I never officially released much after that for Macintosh. I spent
about $18,000 out of my pocket to acquire the source to Pepper from
Maarten. I worked really hard on the mac only version, but then a
company wanted changes to Windows and then an SGI/IRIX version. Linux
and Mac fell by the way side until recently. A database company
licensed the OS X code for use in its SQL Editor and an unreleased
concept.

I started a few months ago looking at Pepper in a more OS X only mind
set. I researched Core Text and other editors functionality. I started
re-writing it in TCL/TK, then became more interested in a Cocoa
version of TCL/TK.

The same with Impression, I recently sold a source code license to a
company here in California that is using it as a foundation for a new
product.

Time to move off list, I just saw Kevins e-mail.
