Downloadable API and dojo book

Hello everybody,

I am travelling quite a lot, and I really miss a downloadable Dojo API
reference, and the downloadable dojo Book. I know there is this
monster-one-page dojo book, but I don't think that helps a lot (as it
often makes my browser crash!).

Did somebody of you find a solution for this problem? I tried to run a
web spider for grabbing the API, but that did not work really well (and
I did not want to put the server under such a high load).

I'm curious for your thoughts,
Sebastian

I'd applause an automatic weekly build of the Dojo book as downloadble PDF as well (or something to that effect), but the existing books are a) very, very good and b) very cheap for PDF download.

Please check out;

http://alex.dojotoolkit.org/?p=682

For a good run-down.

Cheers,
PS (Full disclosure: Upcoming Dojo book author as well (though not one of those in the list) :)

That is an excellent idea! A easy to access Dojo documentation would
be highly expected.

Hiya Deno,

I'm curious: are you experiencing this in Linux?  You say task bar,
which makes me think windows, but it's generic enough a term to point
out this from the Abobe FAQ regarding linux:

http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/AIR_for_Linux:FAQ

===
Q: Is Adobe AIR for Linux feature complete?

A: No. Please see the release notes for the complete list of features
that have not been implemented. For example, features such as printing,
hardware acceleration, badge installation, keyboard accelerators and
screen API's are not yet completed. These features are actively being
worked on and will be made available in our next public beta release.
===

We decided to do some funkyness with using a 100%x100% transparent
window to make the UI behave properly, which I'm told in Linux is
causing a lot of issues. It sounds like pre-release copies of the
/next/ update to AIR for Linux have been successful at running the Toolbox.

Can you give us some more specifics of your OS/setup?

Regards,
Peter Higgins

Dojo Toolbox Builder hangs at "setting up" phase

by Morgan Benton :: Rate this Message:

Reply to Author | View Threaded | Show Only this Message

The Toolbox is cool.  I love having the API running locally.

I've been unable to get the build tool to work, however,  I followed
the steps exactly as in Kevin's screencast. (http://www.sitepen.com/
blog/2008/07/08/dojo-toolbox-first-look/)

I downloaded a source build of dojo 1.1.1, and tried to build the
standard profile without any other options changed.  It seems to hang
at the "Setting Up" phase.  Here is the output from the debug window:

Build output log
starting build
got argumentPairs: action=clean,release, dojodir=/Users/bentonmc/
Desktop/dojo-release-1.1.1-src, profileFile=/Users/bentonmc/Desktop/
dojo-release-1.1.1-src/util/buildscripts/profiles/
standard.profile.js, releaseDir=/Users/bentonmc/Desktop/dojo-
release-1.1.1-src/release, version=0.0.0.dev, optimize=none
buildrunner.go
buildUtil.makeBuildOptions
buildUtil.evalProfile: /Users/bentonmc/Desktop/dojo-release-1.1.1-src/
util/buildscripts/profiles/standard.profile.js
clean: Deleting: /Users/bentonmc/Desktop/dojo-release-1.1.1-src/
release/dojo
release: Using profile: /Users/bentonmc/Desktop/dojo-release-1.1.1-
src/util/buildscripts/profiles/standard.profile.js
release: Using version number: 0.0.0.dev for the release.

I'm running this on an intel mac running osx 10.4.11 (tiger).  If I
copy and paste the command line code generated by the Toolbox Builder
into a terminal window and run from an actual command line, it works
just fine.  My guess is that there must be some sort of permissions
problem when trying to manipulate directories but I'm not sure how to
go about debugging it.

Thanks for a cool tool.

Morgan

hi Morgan,
>From the log output there (thanks!) it gets as far as running the
clean action and starts into the release action, but as its the first
run, it doesnt actually need to delete anything during clean, so you
may be right about the permissions issue. It may be that we're
catching file IO errors there but not messaging them - I'll take
another look. As to /why/ there would be an issue - its trying to copy
an "airbuild" directory to inside that dojo source directory you
indicate - is there a reason why that might now work? What are the
group and file permissions on that directory?

I just did a fresh install using FF3 on Windows XP. I didnt have
Flash, so I had to first install that. The first time I clicked the
install badge, it popped the installer window but said it failed. I
clicked again and it worked.
I'll have to try while running Fiddler - it may be HTTP related. It
may or may not be related to what you saw. The other variables here
are the OS, Flash Version (the "badge installer" is a Flash movie) and
potentially the version of the AIR runtime you have. Can you provide
those details?

Thanks Sam,

The airbuild directory gets created.  It and its subdirectories all
seem to have 755 perms.  The parent directory also is 755.

I also tried putting a copy of the dojo source directory in the root
and seeing if it would work there.  No luck.  Here's the output again:

Build output log
starting build
got argumentPairs: action=clean,release, dojodir=/dojo-release-1.1.1-
src, profileFile=/dojo-release-1.1.1-src/util/buildscripts/profiles/
standard.profile.js, releaseDir=/dojo-release-1.1.1-src/release,
version=0.0.0.dev, optimize=none
buildrunner.go
buildUtil.makeBuildOptions
buildUtil.evalProfile: /dojo-release-1.1.1-src/util/buildscripts/
profiles/standard.profile.js
clean: Deleting: /dojo-release-1.1.1-src/release/dojo
release: Using profile: /dojo-release-1.1.1-src/util/buildscripts/
profiles/standard.profile.js
release: Using version number: 0.0.0.dev for the release.

Again the airbuild directory gets created, but the release directory
doesn't and the process hangs.

Let me know if there's some way I can tweak the code to get some more
useful log output.

Cheers,
Morgan
