Composer 6.5 value assistance

hi all,

i am using Composer 6.5 and need to have some help on value assistance.
can some one give an idea on how to disable a combo box based on the
conditional value of other combo box.
lets say, if i would select IND from combo box A then the amother combo
box B should get disable.
If i would select US from A then B should get enabled and have some
corresponding values.

how to preserve dates created/modified when migrating files into Documentum

Hello,

My company is doing a new installation of Documentum and we have to
migrate all kinds of files to the Documentum system.

Some of us have files that we would like to preserve the created and
modified dates as they display now in our shared Windows directory. We
were told to drag the folders from that server and drop them into the
documentum cabinet. However, when we do that all the files get a new
date - the date we dragged and dropped.

Is there anyway to get existing files into Documentum for the first
time without losing all that important historical info embeded into
the dates that the file were first saved outside of Documentum? if
yes, how?

Please see the DFS devlopment guide and use DFS SDK for the same.

In the development guide they have examples of creating DFS calls
in .NET as well as in JAVA.

Just a side comment.
I am concerned you may be misunderstanding how object permissions work.
It has been covered many times before in this forum but access to
folders and access to
documents are not the same thing.

It is true that folder permissions determine to what degree users can
browse/click their way
into the folder structure but it has nothing to do with who can
access what documents if they are found any other way such as by
searching/DQL.

Only the document's own ACL controls its access permissions regardless
of the
folder(s) in which it is stored.

The query below may be closer to what you need.

There is a UNION of 2 "select" statements.

The fisrt "select" gets groups in the ACL (And displays the users in
the group). The second gets individual users in the ACL.

DFC Run and Disconnect calls affecting performance issue

We are trying debug performance issues in our envrionment for
operations such create new content, checki, etc. We enabled dfc
timing trace for this and got the following trace information. It
appears from the trace that the calls disconnect and run are taking
much more time compared to other df calls. Any ideas/thoughts what
could be the potential reasons for this behaviour?. Thank you...

docbroker connect, total number of docbroker, if there is 20
established docbroker there. That means no more available docbroker
connect. No new connect will be accepted by docbroker. This
situation should not be occurred, definitely, something is wrong,
those connects connect be released by docbroker.

2) At this point, we need to go further and find out who create
those 20 docbroker connect and never release, you can run the
following command, the return results will tell which process
create docbroker connection, check why those process do not close
connect to docbroker

unix command : netstat -p | grep 1489
window command : netstat -b | grep 1489

you can run netstat -b | grep 1489, It definitely blocks all
docbroker connection port.
kill the processes that holds the port 1489 . restart the docbase.
everything should be fine.

Can you also check Docbroker log located in $DOCUMENTUM/dba/log

Starting in 6.0 every installation must have a Docbase designated as
a global registry even if you only plan to have the one Docbase and
even if you're not using distributed Content Servers. Specifying a
Docbase as a global registry is optional during Content Server
installation but a global registry must be configured before
connecting to the Docbase with any client applications.

To use BOF (TBO/SBO) requires that at least one of your Repositories
be designated as the BOF Global Registry. Each Application Server
must identify the BOF Global Registry it will use via the
dfc.properties file.

There are two parts to setting up the BOF Global Registry:

1) making sure the "dm_bof_registry" Repository user is active.

2) making sure that the dfc.properties file on your Application
Server(s) are correctly referencing the Repository that is acting as
the BOF Global Registry and has the listed the correct user
information for the dm_bof_registry user.

1. Verifying that a Repository is the BOF Global Registry:

===================================

-Using Documentum Administrator (DA), log into the Repository that
should be the BOF Global Registry, using an administrator account.

-In Classic view, in the left navigation tree, click on the
Administration node. In the page that appears, under the
heading "User Management", click on "Search for Users".

-Search for the following user: 'dm_bof_registry" (enter this value
next to the User Name label, and click Search).

-View the properties of this user "dm_bof_registry" (click the (i)
icon).

-Make note of the user's 'State' and 'User Login Name'.

If the user State is 'Inactive', then this Repository is not the BOF
Global Registry. To make this Repository the BOF Global Registry,
follow Steps 2-4.

If the BOF Global Registry user is 'Active', you need to verify some
information in your dfc.properties file on your Application Server
(s).

From the Application Server machine, locate the dfc.properties file.

Open this file in any text editor. Ensure the following three
attributes are set in the dfc.properties file:

dfc.bof.registry.repository =

dfc.bof.registry.username =

dfc.bof.registry.password =

Without the above three entries, the BOF Global Registry will not be
set.

If these entries are missing or values are not complete, you will
need to add and populate these values. See the following steps for
more details.

2. Enabling the BOF Global Registry

The following section outlines the steps required to enable the BOF
Global Registry using the Documentum Administrator (DA) application.

-Log into Documentum Administrator (DA) as an Administrator in the
Repository where you want to enable TBO/SBO functionality.

-In Classic view, in the tree, click on the Administration node. In
the page that appears, under the heading "User Management", click
on "Search for Users".

encrypted. A utility is provided to encrypt this password. The
following section outlines the steps required to invoke the password
utility program to encrypt a password.

From a command prompt, execute the following:

java com.documentum.fc.tools.RegistryPasswordUtils <password>

Note- If you are using java methods that use the TBOs/SBOs then you
will need the following entries on the %
DM_Home/config/dfc.properties file as well

Customize webtop menu D6.5

Hi,

I'm using Webtop 6.5 and would like to customize menu. I was manage to
create a custom menubar_component.xml for my additional new menu.

Basically when user click on the menu, it will pop up another webpage
(eg: ASP) and I would like to pass the UserName argument to the ASP
webpage.

The problem is I do not know how to pass UserName to the ASP. Can
anyone help?
Appreciate if you can provide me step by step on how to do it.

Hi Saurabh,

Yes you are right, DTC is not required. Check the dmcl.ini on the machine where you have Documentum Export Module is running. It should be pointing to the correct docbroker. I believe the DFC is installed on the same machine where the export module is running.

Error -4523:Unknown error

after that it again prompts me to reenter the server credentials.
After that , the wizard opens, the first step of wizard is to select
your docbase first
As i am clicking on select docbase..it throws me a prompt again
saying "No docbase Available".. ..this I am unable to grab.

Though in test env also it thows the same error i.e.

but still it is able to locate my docbase and asks me for credentials

this will open a terminal...this meant you are able to communicate
with the server on port 1489.

It is always recommended from an architectural stand point that ..
you seperate the custom development from the standard build from
EMC. It will be helpful in upgrades too.

I want to increase the default column width for few fields in the
Search Results. Can someone please help me what component and jsp file
I have to work with. It should work for general and advanced search
both.

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the reply. I have a few other questions and was wondering
if you can help me out.

1. How do I define the users/groups and their access using ACL?

2. How do I use the IDfPermit? (this is a little embarrassing but I
need to know how do create an instance of this interface and invokes
its underlying methods. I've browse through the DFC javadocs and
could not find any concrete samples for it)

3. If I create a new document in da and assigns a write permission to
its user(say officer1), does that automatically creates an acl?

4. And finally, where can I find more samples regarding acl (other
than the javadoc which contains only 1 example). I would be very
grateful if anyone here could provide me with some sample codes as
well.

You should control access to your Documentum objects using ACLs (Access
Control Lists).

You can create ACLs that have defined sets of users and groups and their
associated access.

You then assign one ACL to each object you wasnt protected.

These ACLs take affect no matter which interface is used to access the
object in Documentum (DFC,Webtop, API calls, etc.).

There are many different names for ACLs, but they are saved as dm_acl
objects, so I tend to still call them ACLs.

Thanks for your reply,

As i do not know how the third party vendor configuration for the
documentum is like so i do not know where the problem lies within.

Beacuse in my development site, I am able to instal the dfc component
without any problem although my site is using windows server 2003 and
the third vendor is using AIX (I assume it does not have any
difference at all).

I will like to double confirm that i am able to find all the
necessary file like dfc.properties and etc in the
$DOCUMENTUM/shared/config (just as the same as windows
C:\Documentum\config)

and also how to telnet to port 1489 (I only know how to telnet to a
server in command prompt).

Sorry for being so noobie as i am a new starter for documentum this
kind of technology. Please bear with me.

it will be under $DOCUMENTUM/shared/config... not in
$DOCUMENTUM/share.

Also try with different commands whether ports are getting blocked
from the server if you are accessing it from outside.

Try to telnet the server on port 1489..

There are many different ways...see whether docbroker process is
running...
