When you say record count, is it the page count or all of the records being
showed with pagination?

You can use a simple tag based on what framework you are using, anyways here's
how I did it:

For example in the following code, someObjList contains the list of objects
in session scope and whose properties are displayed as columns in the display
table.

<display:table name="sessionScope.someObjList" export="true" id="tmpId"
                defaultorder="ascending" cellspacing="1">
....

</display:table>

Including the following code in a JSP scriptlet will get the size of the list
that you are displaying!

Number of records being displayed: <%=((java.util.List) session
                                                                        .getAttribute("someObjList")).size()%>

Brown, do respond to my reply to your other post!

arbrown1,

When you said that you got the static header thing working, do you mean that
it is working in all the browsers? I only see my DIV based CSS working in FireFox
alone and buggy in IE7. I had to use another CSS for IE based browsers,
so essentially two CSS for IE and non-IE browsers. I will post it once I am
done testing.

Is it possible for you to post your CSS please?

Cheers

Hi all,

I'm facing some problems exporting a table with displaytag.
In some of my jsps, when I click on the export link, data is formated in the export format, but for some unknown reason, the servlet keeps on evaluating the page. The result is a html page with data displayed as if they where exported, followed by the rest of my jsp. The header of the response doesn't show any "attachment; ....".
It seems like the servlet doesn't pay any attention to the SKIP_BODY return code from the doEnd() method, and keeps on possessing the rest of the page.

Any ideas on why this is happening to me?
From forum: DisplayTag - General

In our application, we have a search screen in which we are
using Display Tag. The result set could contain a few thousand rows based on the
search criteria. All the columns in the display table are marked as sortable.

is sorted and displayed again. This is to give an impression to the end user that
I don't think the displaytag.properties file can be used to hold I28N

I believe this is much more than a suggestion for an improvement. Right now, after months, it almost gives me a feeling like it is a bug, that even a simple example such as enabling static header and scrollable table body should be working in all the browsers and more importantly the mostly used Internet Explorer!

Forget about a VB or excel kind of a table display which would be neat!
>
> I have been troubled by my problems, for months now, with displaying my jsp pages using display table tag library in Internet Explorer. I have a working CSS for a static header and scrollable table body in firefox. However, I have tried all possible options to get this working in the more popularly used Internet Explorer. I even went through the FAQ to see if the suggested link works, however opening the http://www.imaputz.com/cssStuff/bigFourVersion.html link as suggested in the FAQ also fails in the current version of IE. I would really appreciate if some one could post a working version of using display table tag library with customizable CSS and javascript to enable the basic. And the next thing would be to get a VB or excel type of table.
> In the FAQ page:
> http://displaytag.sourceforge.net/10/faq.html
> ...
> Rendering
> How can I display static headers in a table, so that headers remain visible while user scrolls the table body?
> You can do that simply using css, adding an height and the overflow: scroll property to the tbody element. Unfortunately this will work perfectly in Netscape/Mozilla, but not in Internet Explorer.
> A table with a scrollable body can be made in Internet Explorer using javascript or a more complex css. Here <http://www.imaputz.com/cssStuff/bigFourVersion.html> you can find a good css example.
> ...
> This link in itself does not work at all in the current Internet Explorer.
> When I export to XML and CSV all runs fine (1604 records are exported).
> Any of you with the same problem ?

> Hi everyone,
>
> I found out a weird thing today. I logged in to a Struts app and got forwarded to the homepage, which contains a sortable displaytag table. The URL for the sortable columns of the table contains the user name and password I entered!
>
> For example, on the login page, I used the login Test/myPassword, and the URL for a sortable column is the following:
>
> http://127.0.0.1:7767/test/homepage.do?d-1111-s=3&d-1111-o=2&passwd=myPassword&submit=login&username=Test
>
> Any idea why it does that, and how I can fix this security risk?
>
>

If the <display:table> does not have a requestURI attribute then
displaytag will use the current URL to request changes to the table.
Looks like in this case it's picked up your username and password from
login and put them into the request. I would guess that the login form
is using GET to send the username and password rather than POST.
Changing the action attribute of the <form> element to POST should
remove them from your displaytag URLs. Logging in should be a POST
action because you are changing the server's state (it now registers you
as logged in) rather than just requesting some data.

Ed!

>
> displaytag.properties
> paging.banner.placement=bottom
> Code = Proceeding
>

I don't think the displaytag.properties file can be used to hold I28N

>
>
>
>
>
>

>
> When there are parameters in the requestURI property of <display:table>, there are indefinitely concatenated at each sorting, paging ...
> For example if my property is defined as :
> requestURI="/foo/bar.do?method=search"
> after three sorting my URL looks like
> /foo/bar.do?d-49653-o=2&d-49653-p=1&d-49653-s=1&method=search&method=search&method=search&method=search
> More serious, if my first URL is something like "/foo/bar.do?method=init", the requestURI has no effect, since the URL looks like
> /foo/bar.do?d-49653-o=2&d-49653-p=1&d-49653-s=1&method=init&method=search
> and my parameter method=search is not taken ...

Hi All,

I've just started using display tag Libraries. I successfully managed to do everything with the libraries. But now I'm having the same export problem as mentioned above. Can you please let me know how to handle this problem. Should I download the patch, that's mentioned here and then change my displaytag library jar version 1.1.1 to this jar file. Please advice.

The jar file that I'm using is more recent then the patch jar file mentioned here.

Hi Folks,

I declared some properties in properties file and trying to use in display:column like this.

displaytag.properties
paging.banner.placement=bottom
Code = Proceeding

In Jsp
------

My banner is displaying at the bottom and so the properties file is loaded as expected.

But while iam calling <dispay:column titleKey="Code"> ,it is not able to retrieve the value from properties file and not displaying title for the column as expected.

Help Appreciated.

Thanks And Regards,

I was wondering if anyone knows if displaytag automatically replaces the '&' with '&'. I have a table that has '&'s in some of the values and it displays fine in html (obviously, since it's escaped..), but it still exports the escaped ampersand. Does anyone know if there's an easy way to have it export just the '&'?

Thanks!

Hi Folks,

Iam using a decorator class to display a column value . The first value which iam going to display is an integer value which is actually coming from my decorator as below:

public String getLink1()
    {
    	/*Get the current row data object*/

        Company object = (Company) getCurrentRowObject();

        return "<a href=\"displayController.htm?companyName=" +object.getCompanyName() +"&companyPlace="
        +object.getCompanyPlace()
        +" &companyIdn="
        +object.getCompanyIdn()
        +" \" target="_top" rel="nofollow">"
        +object.getCompanyIdn()
        +"";
    }

And in my JSP iam calling this link as below:

<display:table name="requestScope.test" pagesize="5" requestURI="displayController.htm" sort="list" decorator="DecoratorClassName" >
        <display:column title="IDN" property="companyIdn" sortable="true"/>
        <display:column title="Company Name" property="companyName" sortable="true"/>
</display:table>

Now When iam placing some int value as my first column value and trying to sort with sortable="true" , it is not sorting as expected, but when iam displaying the same int value other than first column value it is sorting very good, can you please tell me what might be the problem.

Thanks And Regards,

Tried poking around some, and changing the visibility alone wouldn´t do any
good I think.
Would have to create some getters and setters aswell.

Anyways, I solved it by creating a custom HssfTableWriter class,
and then extending the Hssf-viewer class to override the function
used to create the headers and footers of the excel document.
> I guess I found the explanation for the strange excel headers.
> In the org.displaytag.render.HssfTableWriter there is a method setting the
> style:
>
>
> Since this is a private method, I guess I can´t override it... So the
> questions remains;
> How can we change the header styles?
>

Since you've got the source code you could change the visibility of the
method and recompile. It seems to me that it should be something you can
customise. Why not raise it as an issue too so that it can be considered
by the developers.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knows if displaytag automatically replaces the '&' with '&'. I have a table that has '&'s in some of the values and it displays fine in html (obviously, since it's escaped..), but it still exports the escaped ampersand. Does anyone know if there's an easy way to have it export just the '&'?

Thanks!
Jon
