Hi all,
I now have something to report on the digest and disabled delivery
situation. The IT people here are not prepared to support digest
delivery at this time. However, as noted before, it is possible to get
something similar through Nabble, Gmane or Elists, with (it should be
said) a rather nicer reading interface, the option of RSS, etc.
The problem with this is that you would not be able to post to the
lists since they are closed. I've worked out a solution for this,
which is to have two separate access control lists, one each for sc-
users and sc-dev. By subscribing to these you will have posting
privileges on the main lists, but will not receive messages.
This will also work as an equivalent of the 'disabled delivery' mode
on the old lists, i.e. allow one to post from multiple addresses, but
only receive one copy.
Detailed info on how to subscribe to the acl lists, and on the various
aggregator options is available here:
http://swiki.hfbk-hamburg.de:8888/MusicTechnology/880#'Disabled'%20and%20'Digest'%20(Web%20and%20RSS)%20DeliveryAs another alternative to digest delivery, you might consider creating
a mail filter or sorting rule which places list messages in a separate
folder. All modern email clients support this. In Apple Mail, for
example, see the 'Rules' section of the Preferences window.
Apologies to anyone receiving multiple copies of this message, I
wanted to make sure both lists and any unsubscribed people who'd
expressed an interest in digest delivery received it.
I've tested the acl lists, and they seem to work fine, but let me know
if anyone encounters any glitches.
Best,
Scott
