Did I install correctly?

I am not able to get ANY image when I print something I created in GIMP
and I cannot access anything I've saved in GIMP in any other programs.  
What did I do wrong?  As it stands now, GIMP is useless to me.  Thanks

The default save extension in GIMP is XCF, which other programs cannot open.
You'll need to save as JPG or GIF or PNG...

To fix the printing problem, replace print.exe with winprint.exe from
2.2.x

Dangerous advice, as someone who does this now will likely forget to
remove this plug-in ever again.

My advice will certainly get R Hornbein going. But, if you have
better advice, I am all ears.  Er, make that 'eyes'.
