Demo editor performance on macintelHi,
I've been editing sounds up on a powerbook G4 when I'm not in the studio, then just moved to an intel mac with 10.5. Patches seem to be crapping out, which were fine on the G4. (Audio SR at 44.1). The demo has become a serious tool for me, anyone know of tweaks to get the performance back? ___________________________________________________________ Nord-modular mailing list Nord-modular@... http://mail.electro-music.com/mailman/listinfo/nord-modular Members: use http://mail.electro-music.com/mailman/options/nord-modular to change subscription status, digest options, password, topics, etc. Patches sent to the Nord-Modular mailing list may not be redistributed without the express consent of the author/creator. ___________________________________________________________ |

Re: Demo editor performance on macintelThe demo is not UB (Universal Binary) which means that the intel mac
is emulating the powerpc architecture "under the hood" and thus taxing your system. The only solution would be Clavia releasing a UB demo (and editor, BTW) or getting more powerful hardware :( Sorry about that. The first rule of intelmac migration is to make sure that your apps have native versions. It seems that you just discovered this in quite a nasty way. :( El 27/11/2007, a las 13:02, Grant Ransom escribió: > Hi, > I've been editing sounds up on a powerbook G4 when I'm > not in the studio, then just moved to an intel mac > with 10.5. > Patches seem to be crapping out, which were fine on > the G4. Re: Demo editor performance on macintelIs there any knowledge on when a UB (maybe even Leopard-compatible) of
the editor may become available? It's been over 2 years since I've seen UB's start to appear. Isn't the G2 a "supported" product? Re: Demo editor performance on macintelHi Grant
The editor is running under Rosetta so the performance on even the newest Intel hardware is quite poor. There is not much that can be done about it unfortunately. Cheers 7uke. Yes, I had a feeling this may be the case. I just hope'd they'd forgotten to mention it on the D/L page, which I have seen before. > > The only solution would be Clavia releasing a UB demo (and editor, > BTW)or getting more powerful hardware :( LOL, this is a 2.16 dual. I ain't getting another one for a long while. > > Sorry about that. The first rule of intelmac migration is to make > sure that your apps have native versions. What I think I really discovered, was that Clavia still don't update their software as often as everyone else. Actually, none of the software on this machine is native, except the browser and "bundled" stuff. This has been the first problem. Anyhow, Thx, Grant. > > > El 27/11/2007, a las 13:02, Grant Ransom escribió: > >> Hi, >> I've been editing sounds up on a powerbook G4 when I'm >> not in the studio, then just moved to an intel mac >> with 10.5. >> Patches seem to be crapping out, which were fine on >> the G4. Unless they are a company with some kind of bi-polar disorder. Here's hoping. Re: Demo editor performance on macintelI thought the wave was pretty neat-looking. Supposedly the best mellotron samples since the mellotron. Of course, I'd never buy one -- the nord modular has ruined every other synthesizer out there for me. Buying my nm saved me so much money over the past 8 or 9 years (wow, I guess this is the longest relationship I've had). I don't lust after other synths the way I did before. I can't deal with hard-wired, unyielding synths!

Re: Demo editor performance on macintel
As i understand it, Clavia's Modular synths have never been the
products that make them the money.
I think most will agree that the Nord Lead series were the synths that they are best known for. The Wave is an extension of that range. The G2 Demo was only meant to entice you to buy a G2. Should we really expect them to update it too often? I see myself as lucky to have a G2 at all. I recently returned to the Nord modular world by performing a live set with just a G2, midi controller and an Anlogue bassline. it was very enjoyable and man did it slam compared to all of the crappy Ableton sets I've been hearing for the last couple of years. Sure it took me a month to set up so that i have the versatility that i wanted, but it really was worth it. I even routed the bassline through the G2 for processing. No computer screens, just my machines and a ancient peavy pc1600 midi controller. I couldn't do that with a Nord Lead/Wave. Cheers 7uke.
