Hello,

I wrote a load generator that spawns several dwr clients (in this case just 3) and sends messages to the simple java chat example app.
Every other run or so, I get a 501 (Not implemented) response from Jetty due to a ConcurrentModificationException in dwr code. If I turn up the # of clients, I can't get passed a single run.

Looking at the code, the problem happens during the post when dwr is converting script variables to javascript. It's iterating through the collection of script variables while the collection is being changed.

Using DWR 2.0.5 with Jetty 6.1.8

When I try to integrates DWR with jsf(myfaces) I can get the data from back end.
But the data can't be showed successfully. No error message in server(tomcat 6) log.
The code line can't get the successful show.

The users mailing list is a much better place for this type of query. I've copied my reply there.
Can you tell me more about what you want to achieve? Do you just want to put up a more friendly page?

The options that I can think of:
- If you are using Apache or some similar fronting server: add a mod_rewrite rule
- Add a line to your web.xml or to a filter in web.xml to re-route the specific URLs you don't want to appear
- Implement a DWR handler and register it with DWR. See http://directwebremoting.org/dwr/server/servlet at the bottom, under "undocumented". ;-)

The further up the list, the easier it will be.

Hi Guys ,

I have changed the setting " DWR debug turned off" in web.xml , so when I go to Url http://localhost:8080/dwr/ it give me java.lang.SecurityException: Access to debug pages is denied.
Is there a way to catch this exception and present user a more custom error page .
I have tried the <error-page> tag in web.xml & <global Exception tag> in strut.config , but I am not able to catch this exception .

Is there a way to catch this ?? Thanks .

When I checked DWR source code. I saw it will print out log file if used Jetty or not it also have debug
log.debug("No Jetty ContuniationSupport class, using standard Servlet API");

But I dont see anything like that in our log file. I dont know if there is special way to use DWR or some trigger for it to use Jetty ContinuationSupport.

In 3.0 there is a startup message about the container abstraction (with debug logging) maybe there is something similar for 2.0 too.

I tried to get a prove by put all log4j in debug or even trace mode to see if I get any message saying it is using Jetty continuation. But I could not find anything.

Hmm, that's nasty.
It is my intention to properly support 1.4, but I've not got a multi-server/jvm testing environment fully sorted out yet. This looks like a bug with retroweaver,
My best suggestion is to have a quick play with Retrotranslator instead: http://retrotranslator.sourceforge.net/ I think it should be fairly easy to take a the DWR jar for 1.5 and run it through Retrotranslator instead.

I have following situation:
My application server placed behind the proxy server (Apache). And proxy server change the context root.
For example:
Application root is R1. So, to connect to the application I have to use the url like this: http://server:port/R1. But the server itself is behind the firewall. To access the server prosy is used.

And the proxy change the root following way: http://proxyserver/a/R1
The class InterfaceHandler has the row: String path = request.getContextPath() + request.getServletPath(); Because of it the DWR can't handle the described situation correctly.

I was trying to modify the code : String path = request.getServletPath().substring(1); (use relative path)
It works, but leads to an additional problem with servlet mapping.
In this case for each application subfolder (where DWR is used) I have to add additional servlet-mapping entry. Like:

<servlet-name>dwr-invoker</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/dwr/*</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>dwr-invoker</servlet-name>

I think the solution can be following: instead of using mapping based on the folder path to use mapping based on extension path:

<servlet-name>dwr-invoker</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>*.dwr</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
This type of J2EE mapping allow to be independent from URL path. Also, "import" JavaScript URL synatx should be changed. For example:

DWR 3.0M1-RC2, annotations and Spring

I've recently attempted to migrate our project from DWR 2 to the latest
3.0M1 release, but have found a strange feature which I believe is a bug?

As background, I am using the Spring DispatcherServlet to handle http
requests in our app and have wrapped the DwrServlet in a Spring
mvc.ServletWrappingController (specifying annotated classes available).
I have also created a Spring bean definition and appropriately annotated
each class accessible to DWR:

When I switch back to DWR2 the problem disappears, but I was looking
forward to playing with the new features.. :)

Hi Joe,

Well I’ve resolved the issue and it was a real surprise. I was just one long day too many. The infrastructure person responsible for updating the code became confused with what version was supposed to be deployed and so redeployed the old code. Which obviously did not have the new methods; which did not get reflected in the new dwr.xml.

I'm not sure what could be going on here. I don't think DWR is doing anything that could go wrong - it reads the file just before it uses it, and that's it. Whatever the JVM/OS gives us we use and then throw the InputStream away.
Has anyone else seen anything like this?

There were polling bugs in 2.0.3 and 3.0m1. I believe that I've squashed them, and that we'll be able to release new versions soon.

portlet:defineObjects does not work with DWR

Hi, I'm new to using DWR and porlets. My JSP is throwing a NullPointerException when I try to access 'renderRequest' and 'renderResponse' object (eg. renderRequest.getContextPath()). Apparently, the portlet:defineObject is suppose to instantiate this object. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. 1. where is the context path been retrieved from using renderRequest/renderRequest? 2. is there another way to retrieve the context path? Timeout not happening for synchronous calls

I am trying to submit a DWR request with async:false and timeout:5000 and errorHandler:myHandler. If application exception occurs, the myHandler function gets invoked. If I change async to true, myHandler gets invoked if the response takes longer than 5 seconds. But if I keep async:false then even if the response takes very long, the myHandler never gets called. Even the _abortRequest does not get called. Is this an expected behavior or is it a bug? Is there a way to workaround this problem so that myHandler gets called when timeout occurs for sync calls. I also tried using warningHandler but that did not work either. Please help. Thanks.

After attempting to get DWR comet to work in Internet Explorer 6 using v2.0.2, I reverted back to 2.0.1 based on information found in this forum.

In Mozilla Firefox, when I browse to the debug test page for my class and click on one of the methods, my log shows only one call to the constructor for the class.

The problem I had with DWR and weblogic 8 was that DWR 2 had some code in it that had Java 1.5 stuff in it (annotations and such). Although it was meant to detect java versions and work normally even with 1.4, the truth is it didn't. So what I did was download the dwr source 2 and comment out the checking for annotations and recompile dwr 2 for java 1.4. That fixed the exceptions that were being raised.

The other option you could try is to use DWR 1.x.
