Getting a custom projection set in
DNR Garmin can be a bit of a pain. Here's an easy way to add the
Yukon Albers projection to the EPSG and/or ESRI lists. Open
"c:\program files\dnrgarmin\proj\nad\epsg" (or
esri) in your favourite text editor and add this to the bottom:
# NAD83 / Yukon Albers
<3578> +proj=aea +lat_1=61.66666666667 +lat_2=68.0 +lat_0=59.0 +lon_0=-132.5 +x_0=500000 +y_0=500000 +ellps=GRS80 +datum=NAD83 +units=m
Result:

After you've done that, go to
File > Set Projection, using the the radio button pick which ever file you edited (epsg or esri), and in the
POSC code drop-down select
3578.
Thanks to the work of Jeff Hamm from the Yukon Land Use Planning Council after the next release of DNR Garmin (and any other software which uses the EPSG database) the editing step won't be necessary, as "3578 Yukon Albers" is now in the core database.
