DL 1.2.15 on CF Card

I tried to install DL on an Alix board using
the script install-on-usb (grub with serial)
and a 2 GB CF card with two partitions, each 1 GB.

When I try to boot, I get the message

GRUB loading stage 1.5.
GRUB loading, please wait.
Error 2

and the system get stuck, no more output, no keyboard
input.

Any ideas, getting it to run?

The menu.lst (which is a ln to grub.conf) in /boot/grub:

Use syslinux - I've never got grub to work

Thanks, I tried that, and changed the vga option in the syslinux.conf
to the grub console options.

i had same problem on soekris net5501 + cf card:
 i solved it changing cf card geometry settings, cyls, head,... to get
the number of cylinders less than 1024....

Heads; 64 Sectors: 63  Cylinders: 992   :-(

I changed the bios to lba and back, same behavior.
