Install these, the rest should be pulled in as needed via dependencies.

I suppose this is because it is the open-xchange documentation, not
the cyrus documentation. but read on.

cyrus has no dependency on postfix whatsoever.
I also suppose following the OX install instructions in the order
presented there would lead one to a functional setup. if this is not
the case the install instructions should be changed.

if the question actually means: "I want to install postfix and cyrus,
do I have to install postfix first?", then you should ask this at some
postfix forum.

quoting from
http://wiki.open-xchange.com/wiki/index.php?title=Open_Xchange_Installation#V._Installing.2FConfiguring_Mail

"Make sure following packages are installed on your system:
    * cyrus-imapd-2.2
    * sasl2-bin
    * libpam-mysql
    * libnss-mysql-bg
    * postfix-mysql "

now, where is the problem with following this instruction?

look, if you're having trouble with the OX instructions you shoud give
the necessary information so others can try to help, e.g.
- exactly what you did (according to the OX install documentation)
- what went wrong (and how you know it went wrong)

if you're having problems installing and configuring vanilla debian
packages (not OX itself) you really should join one of the many
debian-users mailing lists, e.g. http://lists.debian.org/debian-user-french/

Hi Peter
T'm sorry to be so length to answer you.
I realize my troubles come from my way of reading manual :
I don't understand why first lines of part III. "Preparations" say :
"Before you start the installation you must install all components from
step II"
when  "Required packages" appears in the V.1.1. section
My way of reading would see  "Required packages" in the "II.6 Imap
Server" section
Don't you confirm ?
I notice It speaks indeed postfix ! "postfix-mysql", doesn't it postfix
programm need ?
I hope don't boring you

like I said before:

if you find something wrong (references to the wrong sections, e.g.)
feel free to either make correctons to the wiki (it's a wiki after
all) or maybe ask others in the forum
http://www.open-xchange.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=3

> I notice It speaks indeed postfix ! "postfix-mysql", doesn't it

if the install instructions specifically mention the installation of
postfix packages, then yes, you probably want to install postfix.
unless you want (or have) to use some other MTA, but then the OX wiki
won't be of much help in this regard.  since you don't seem to have a
need to use some other MTA there is very good reason to do just as the
instructions say.

since this is now going on for several weeks I also suggest you ask
someone more experienced to help with setting things up. or maybe
start with another project that does not involve integration of many
components you're complete infamiliar with.
