First of all sorry for this email if someone thinks of it as a spam or a sale poster but I thought this would be a good forum for someone to benefit from this development board.

Not sure if there are people on this list who might be experimenting with CSound on ADSP but I did play around for a while with my ADSP 21065L Chip on an EZKIT. I tried to do a port but really didnt get too far and then gave up. I'm putting up this board for sale online..

http://cgi.ebay.com/Analog-Devices-ADSP-21065L-EZ-KIT-Lite_W0QQitemZ120273335857QQihZ002QQcategoryZ4663QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

In case someone from this group wants to give porting Csound onto DSP , this kit is a great place to give that a shot.. I'm not having much time to continue with my experimentation and thought maybe someone from this group might benefit from this board. Sorry for this email if someone thinks of it as a spam or a sale poster but I thought this would be a good forum for someone to benefit from this development board.
Regards
Shyam

There already is a port of Csound onto an Analog Devices board, by Barry Vercoe, the original author of Csound. This is a commercial product.

Mike

This feature looks nice: "By removing the socketed EPROM, replacing it
with an EPROM containing user code, the board can run as a stand-alone
unit, without the PC."

Is this the case with the CSound/Analog Devices board? And does anyone
have any experience with this? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to rip out
the guts of a Roland Sound Canvas and fit a CSound DSP into it? ;-)

You may not be able to buy Barry's Csound port to the SHARC, but I
think you can lease the karioke(sp?) machine.

It is difficult to tell because no one can get hold of it.

Are ADI actively promoting and supporting/developing this? I thought the
ADI Extended Csound was now pretty well dead. The 6-channel Sphinx card
we (CDP) got years ago is now only fit for a museum, as it only had
drivers for Win95 (and possibly NT), and was more than a little flaky in
that it would crash at the slightest provocation.

Indeed I have a drawer full of miscellaneous ADI kit (including an
unopened and unused Sharc 21065 EZKIT - offers?) that would probably
pass for cool modern art if glued or nailed to a plinth and
spray-painted; but I have no expectations of ever plugging them into a
machine and actually using them any more.

And if we want f/p double precision, then we would need to rely mainly
on accelerator hardware such as the latest nVidia GPUs (1 Tflop for the
price of an iMac), etc. Or a custom FPGA of some kind.

I second the motion.

Multicore general-purpose processors, and re-purposed graphics and cell-type
processors, should stay ahead of this kind of thing, especially considering
how much harder it is to develop software for DSP systems.

Mike

Since my day job is as a digital logic designer for a large FPGA
manufacturer, this idea had crossed my mind also...

Cheers,
Gareth

I thought the same thing using the Xilinx virtex-5
