Connecting to other GAMPS sites and other Genealogy pagesThis is probably something most of you have done before, but as I have
created my multiple GRAMPS databases (for different families), and am in contact with family members and friends across the world, we would like to link up our genealogy pages so that a reader might enter my family tree, and when he/she comes to an individual that is a member of another family tree, the link would open the other instance in the other web site. The idea is to reduce the number of instances of data for an individual, while enabling readers to find data and genealogical info about individuals that might be associated with many families, and therefore many genealogical sites. For GRAMPS sites, how would you do this (rather than just create a link for an individual, i.e., storing data on both sites and creating a reference link, which would likely mean duplication of data)? For the same type of connectivity, has anyone tried this with GRAMPS to other genealogical pages, for instance, Personal Ancestry, or any GEDCOM site? This is not what you are asking for, but it is food for thought. I have been working on Gramps with my brother-in-law Daryl. So I generate full Web pages for him that is located on my home computer. There are no links to the path and I change the directory name periodically. So he can view the unrestricted web pages. Also I set up a User name for him on my computer. Then he can use ssh with X-Forwarding to start and view a read only version of my Gramps on his computer. I also could give him write access, but have chosen not to. I also can log into Gramps remotely and make changes on the fly. Here is the command. $ ssh -Y <REMOTE USER NAME>@<REMOTE IP> gramps password Warning, if gramps is already running on the remote computer, then you will get an error. Also this will not work if you computer is not running. :-) -- Jerry Perkins Home page = http://jperkins.us/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ _______________________________________________ Gramps-users mailing list Gramps-users@... https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gramps-users |
