Config Parameter display_rooms & display_mythosd()

Hi All,

I am trying to configure display_rooms in mh.ini to work for my various display devices. I have a few slimdevice SqueezeBox's working happily via xPL. Thanks to Gregg (and others?) who have worked to get OSD working via xPL.

Reading the code I see I can configure other devices that have functions called display_whatever() via the device= option. I have two MythTV frontends and have successfully used display_mythosd() to display messages on each frontend.

Q1. Is display_mythosd() designed to be used by config parameter display_rooms?  If so, how?
Q2. Is there another way to configure MythTV OSD display output via the display_rooms config parameter?
Q3. Is there a method to use display_mythosd() to output data to more than one frontend?

Many thanks,
Andy.

it appears to be no

modifications would need to be made

it seems not; but, I would think if would not be too difficult to
change/evolve.

I thought so. As you say, it should not be too much work to evolve the required support.

I don't mind having a go at it. (That way I can leave you with the niggling Analog Sensor issue ;-) Let me know if you want me to have a go. I would also like to add support for mythosd to utilise addresses for output to different MythTV front ends.

Andy.

Yep--that's high on my list to resolve.

Sounds good to me.  I don't personally use MythTV; so, I wouldn't be a
good candidate anyway.

FYI - I seem to remember Howard working on some MythTV xAP connector.  I
don't recall it's functionality (or perhaps I'm completely nuts); but,
perhaps he will speak up.

Gregg

Electrical Usage Monitoring REPOST?

Dear group,

Someone this spring posted a great thread about monitoring your electrical usage with some specific hardware (TED?) configured through serial to MH. Naturally, the sourceforge mail servers makes it impossible to find this thread so I was wondering if the owner could post his findings again, specifically what hardware and software solution you arrived at? Perhaps you wouldn't mind posting that to the wiki as I think electrical usage monitoring is a great project.
Thanks so much.
Michael

Hi Michael

You might find it easier to find the thread using Nabble.

Here's the link...

I have been tinkering with a MythTV xAP connector -- My original
schema....could be improved, so I'll probably take another try at it
over the summer. It just sends encoder information to misterhouse
(idle, recording) with title, channel and time information. It would
be nice to figure out a bi-directional link, such that it could be
integrated into the mistershouse tv listings (to replace the VCR
link), however so far it doesn't look trivial to get this
functionality in place. Plus it basically reinvents MythWeb.

I am interested in helping make the display options more modular. I've
written up a netnotify script that listens to speech and if its a
phone call or email, it sends growl notifications to my macs, and uses
the smbclient samba utility to send a 'net send' message to windows
(2000 & XP, Vista removed the messenger service, so I haven't figured
that one out yet) clients. It would be nice to be able to 'hook' into
display settings, such that these are more easily configured and
supported. I also use the python script xbmcmythtv for my
mythfrontend, and have written a python 'listener' that netnotify
sends to.
