I hope someone can help me with a most frustrating problem! I am trying
to get Microsoft Expression Web or (if that fails) Frontpage working
with webdav in Apache 2.2.9. (aside, WHY didn't Microsoft put in
support for sFTP or FTP-SSL?)

I believe (!) that I have Webdav properly setup. At least, cadaver and
Dreamweaver are able to connect, get and put file, etc. However,
Frontpage and Expression Web have problems: mainly I get back a "301
Document moved" error, or "X is not a directory."

The current setup has multiple virtual domains served off a single IP,
using apache2-mmp-prefork.  I have a domain, authoring.y.z, to use as a
host.

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin     web@...
ServerName      authoring.x.y
DocumentRoot    /var/www/docroot/x.y/pages
ErrorLog        /var/log/apache2/authoring.x.y-error.log
CustomLog       /var/log/apache2/authoring.x.y-access.log combined

          <Directory /var/www/docroot/x.y/pages>
          Dav         On
          AuthType    Digest
          AuthName    authoring.x.y
          AuthUserFile /var/www/docroot/digestusers
          <LimitExcept OPTIONS>
          Require     valid-user
          </LimitExcept>
          </Directory>

</VirtualHost>

I have also tried numerous permutations: using 443 and SSL with Authtype
Basic, playing with the path in <Directory>, and so on. These have not
helped.

I can't imagine that I'm the only one using Apache2 trying to support
Expression Web. Am I doing something stupid, or is there a problem in
either mod_dav(fs) or Expression Web? I would greatly appreciate any tips.

Has anyone else seen this behavior in FtpClient 1.4.1? A valid connection is established, passive mode is successfully entered, and a successful list files operation is performed. If the current open FtpClient session/socket is retained, still in passive modem and a second list files operation is attempted, nothing happens. The cause seems to be this snippet of code:

Line 508 (1.4.1 version of FtpClient)

        { // We must be in PASSIVE_LOCAL_DATA_CONNECTION_MODE
            if (pasv() != FTPReply.ENTERING_PASSIVE_MODE)
                return null;
            __parsePassiveModeReply((String)_replyLines.elementAt(0));

On the first setup, 227 is received (FTPReply.ENTERING_PASSIVE_MODE) and it all works. On the second list files op, since the socket is already open and passive mode is already in effect, the second call to pasv() gets a 250 from the server, which causes this logic to return a null socket, thus the resulting failure to issue the second list files op successfully.

Shouldn't this code check for a 250 and return the current socket if a 250 is received from the pasv() call?

Thanks in advance for any info - this is the first time I have seen what looks like a bug in the FtpClient stuff, and I am unsure how to proceed (file a jira?). I may try building the source tomorrow, making the patch, and seeing if it helps with multiple calls to listFiles on the same passive session, at least in our case where we are hitting a standard Redhat ES FTP server. But I wanted to ask in case someone knows more about this.
> May i ask some further questions regarding datamodel manipulation...
> its very easy to change the value of a variable by using <assign>, but how
> can i create a new one or delete an existing variable?
> and if i have a data tree, how can i add or delete entries there? for
> example:
>
>      <datamodel>
>        <data name="test">
>          <rooms>
>                 <room>kitchen</room>
>                 <room>bedroom</room>
>          </rooms>
>        </data>
>      </datamodel>
>
> now i want to add a new room "bath" or delete the kitchen, is that possible
> from within the scxml document? If not, how could that be done? By using a
> custom action or by Jexl Method invokation?
>

<snip/>

The corresponding <assign> variant "replaces the children". See the
assign variants listed at the bottom of the datamodel guide:

  http://commons.apache.org/scxml/guide/datamodel.html

So there is no way to selectively add or remove a <room> above, using <assign>.

You could do it either way (custom action or JEXL method), but custom
actions would be more appropriate here IMO since they'd make the
functionality available across ELs. So, one can imagine the following
custom actions ...

<data:appendChild location="..." child="..."/>

<data:removeChild location="..." child="..."/>

... adjusted per taste, where each supports the corresponding
equivalent on org.w3c.dom.Node. I think these would be quite useful
additions to Commons SCXML, so if you end up implementing them, and if
you'd like, you can contribute them back via JIRA:

  http://commons.apache.org/scxml/issue-tracking.html

> Oh and one more question, am i right that <SCRIPT> is not implemented in
> commonsSCXML?
>
<snap/>

Correct, implementations are not required to support it. But, its just
another custom action and we have all the necessary machinery in place
for folks who need it (to implement it themselves).

-Rahul

>  thanks,
> > >
> > >  well, i would be particular interested in b)
> > >
> > > I allready tried using the event listeners and they work quite well,
> but my
> > > problem here is the lack of information within the listener
> > > functions(i.e.onEntry). I would like to pass over additional data from
> the
> > > SCXML engine, not only the id of the current state.
> > >
> > >
> > >
> > <snip/>
> >
> > Custom actions are convenient for this, i.e. option (a).
> >
> >
> >
> >
> > > It is possible to get access to the datamodel by using the
> TransitionTarget
> > > Object that is passed into the function, but i have got a problem here:
> This
> > > datamodel contains all the data specified in the scxml file, but only
> the
> > > initial values. Even if something changes the values of the datamodel
> within
> > > the scxml engine i can only get the old values in the listener
> functions.
> > > Why is that so? Am I doing something wrong here? Whats the right way to
> get
> > > access to the datamodel from the listener?
> > >
> > >
> > >
> > <snap/>
> >
> > That gives you the model (the state machine definition as it was
> > authored), not the live instance (which needs to be accessed via the
> > corresponding Context, a custom action will allow for that). There are
> > Javadoc notes about this in some places, but clearly not all.
> >
> >
> >
> >
> > >  One more question:
> > > When i take a look at the interaction patterns statet in
> > >
> http://commons.apache.org/scxml/guide/using-commons-scxml.html
> > > , b) should map to "Listening to state machine progress".
> > >
> > >
> > <snip/>
> >
> > Yes.
> >
> >
> >
> >
> > > Now i am not
> > > quite sure about the first patter, the "Mapping states to activities".
> May
> > > it be possible to explain this in other words than on that page?
> > > Unfortunately i am not able to understand that explanation there.
> > >
> > >
> > >
> > <snap/>
> >
> > I don't have much email time today, but the RDC usecase [1] uses this
> > pattern. Its open source, so all details are available if you want to
> > look. The first two patterns are "lightweight" and don't really work
> > too well for involved usecases IMO.
> >

Hi
This is the first time I'm writing to a list, so I'm not sure whether this
should be sent to DevList or UserList. Sorry if I'm sending this to the
wrong list.
I'm using 1.7.0 version of commons-beanutils. The possible bug (or issue)
I've found is in lines 416 to 418 of class MethodUtils when I'm evaluating
an Enum's constant-specific method, which overrides an abstract one.
Those lines are the following:

415: // If the declaring class is public, we are done
416:        Class clazz = method.getDeclaringClass();
417:        if (Modifier.isPublic(clazz.getModifiers())) {
418:            return (method);
419:        }

Since every constant of the Enum is compiled as a separate anonymous class
extending the Enum, evaluating its modifiers doesn't return public, which
causes the above return to be skipped.
My question is: should the above code be modified to consider that
particular case? Because the method is actually public and it's declaring
class (the constant, actually) too.

Here I show the code for testing this behavior:

=========================
The enum:

public enum SomeEnum {
   CONSTANT1 {
        public String getLabel() {
            return "a";
        }
    },
   CONSTANT2 {
        public String getLabel() {
            return "b";
        }
    };
    public abstract String getLabel();
}

=========================
The test class:

public class TestEnum {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        SomeEnum a = SomeEnum.CONSTANT1;
        Method[] methods = a.getClass().getMethods();
        System.out.println(a.getClass());
        for (int i = 0; i < methods.length; i++) {
            Method method     = methods[i];
            System.out.println(method.getName() + " - " +
                    evaluateMethod(method));
        }
    }

    private static boolean evaluateMethod(Method method) {
        return Modifier.isPublic(method.getDeclaringClass().getModifiers());
    }

Thank you for your answer

May i ask some further questions regarding datamodel manipulation...
its very easy to change the value of a variable by using <assign>, but
how can i create a new one or delete an existing variable?
and if i have a data tree, how can i add or delete entries there? for
example:

      <datamodel>
        <data name="test">
          <rooms>
                <room>kitchen</room>
                <room>bedroom</room>
          </rooms>
        </data>
      </datamodel>

now i want to add a new room "bath" or delete the kitchen, is that
possible from within the scxml document? If not, how could that be done?
By using a custom action or by Jexl Method invokation?

Oh and one more question, am i right that <SCRIPT> is not implemented in
commonsSCXML?

thanks,
Wolfgang
>>
>> well, i would be particular interested in b)
>>
>> I allready tried using the event listeners and they work quite well, but my
>> problem here is the lack of information within the listener
>> functions(i.e.onEntry). I would like to pass over additional data from the
>> SCXML engine, not only the id of the current state.
>>
>>
> <snip/>
>
> Custom actions are convenient for this, i.e. option (a).
>
>
>
>> It is possible to get access to the datamodel by using the TransitionTarget
>> Object that is passed into the function, but i have got a problem here: This
>> datamodel contains all the data specified in the scxml file, but only the
>> initial values. Even if something changes the values of the datamodel within
>> the scxml engine i can only get the old values in the listener functions.
>> Why is that so? Am I doing something wrong here? Whats the right way to get
>> access to the datamodel from the listener?
>>
>>
>
>
>
>
>>
>
>
>
>
>>
>>
>
>>
>>
>>
>> I forgot to add commons.io dependecy but adding it did not solve the
>> problem.
> Then I have no idea what your problem is. I checked the jarfile and it
> looks ok:
>  javap -classpath commons-fileupload-1.2.1.jar
> org.apache.commons.fileupload.FileUploadBase
> reports
>    public void
> setProgressListener(org.apache.commons.fileupload.ProgressListener);
> is present.
>
> You could perhaps try
>   upload.setProgressListener(
>     (org.apache.commons.fileupload.ProgressListener) listener);
> just as a test.
>
>
>

I found the problem. I removed every jars and add them one by one. There

was a conflict between Struts import of commons.fileupload and the one I
added.
A stupid mistake after all.

Anyway, thanks for your help ! have a nice day

Hello Pierre,
thanks for offering your help!
commons-compress currently has some drawbacks. Torsten and I started
a redesign. Since I am not a committer of Apache, we started this redesign
as GIT repository.
Once we feel that commons-compress is in a good state, Torsten (or another
interested
committer) will put that compress code into the apache-codebase. As soon as
a
compress-release is done, VFS will delete all compress code von its codebase
and depend on commons-compress.

You can start immediatly if you install GIT. On a Windows box I have good
expierence
with cygwin (simply choose GIT in the installer), on a Mac box I use ports.

To check out:
git clone git://projects.grobmeier.de/compress-redesign.git

You should have a copy of my repos. Of course you have to sync with Torsten
repos too.
git pull git://vafer.org/compress.git

Do some changes. After that you can publish your repos to any webhost and we
can pull your stuff.
At the moment i have several items on my list, for example:

- update zip code with code from ant (I do that currently)
- enhance TestCases
- implement more of ChangeSet
- general clean up
- integrate with maven again (its broken)

Thanks,
Chris.
> > Are there plans in place to update the commons apache components to build
>  > with JDK 1.5 instead?
>
>
> Its being done on a component-bycomponent basis. The following list
> may not be complete, but this is the state-of-play that I know of:
>
> 1) Collections - has had a JDK 1.5 branch for quite some time, not
>  very active atm
>  http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/commons/proper/collections/branches/collections_jdk5_branch/
>
>  2) Configuration - Version 2.0 branch requires JDK 1.5:
>  http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/commons/proper/configuration/branches/configuration2_experimental/
>
> 3) IO - last release (1.4) was JDK 1.4 compatible, but the current
> trunk (and the next release, probably 2.0) now requires JDK 1.5
>
> 4) Lang - discussed recently on the dev list:
>  http://markmail.org/message/k36vrkgupiewg3qx
>
>  5) Math - Version 2.0 branch requires JDK 1.5:
>  http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/commons/proper/math/branches/MATH_2_0/
>
>  6) Net - Version 2.0 branch requires JDK 1.5:
>  http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/commons/proper/net/branches/NET_2_0/
>
>  7) SCXML - J6 branch requires JDK 1.6
>  http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/commons/proper/scxml/branches/J6/
>

<snip/>

Thanks for producing the list :-)

And ofcourse, if anyone is interested in a moving a particular
component to 1.5+, please hop on to the Commons dev list, and start
the discussion over there.
>
> well, i would be particular interested in b)
>
> I allready tried using the event listeners and they work quite well, but my
> problem here is the lack of information within the listener
> functions(i.e.onEntry). I would like to pass over additional data from the
> SCXML engine, not only the id of the current state.
>
<snip/>

>
<snap/>

<snip/>

Yes.

> Now i am not
> quite sure about the first patter, the "Mapping states to activities". May
> it be possible to explain this in other words than on that page?
> Unfortunately i am not able to understand that explanation there.
>
<snap/>

I don't have much email time today, but the RDC usecase [1] uses this
pattern. Its open source, so all details are available if you want to
look. The first two patterns are "lightweight" and don't really work
too well for involved usecases IMO.

-Rahul

[1] http://commons.apache.org/scxml/usecases/scxml-in-rdc-group.html

>  Thank you,
> But TrueZip development seems to be abandonned for some time now...
>
> Well, Truezip does the trick but I think having a more general library
> would be nicer (and something maybe more reliable on time-basis).
>

we had lots of discussions about truezip in the past and came to the
truezip.
the SCXML engine, not only the id of the current state.

It is possible to get access to the datamodel by using the
TransitionTarget Object that is passed into the function, but i have got
a problem here: This datamodel contains all the data specified in the
scxml file, but only the initial values. Even if something changes the
values of the datamodel within the scxml engine i can only get the old
values in the listener functions. Why is that so? Am I doing something
wrong here? Whats the right way to get access to the datamodel from the
listener?

One more question:
When i take a look at the interaction patterns statet in
http://commons.apache.org/scxml/guide/using-commons-scxml.html ,  b)
should map to "Listening to state machine progress". Now i am not quite
sure about the first patter, the "Mapping states to activities". May it
be possible to explain this in other words than on that page?
Unfortunately i am not able to understand that explanation there.

Thank you,
Wolfgang
>> Hello!
>>
>> I am new in commonsSCXML and have two questions:
>>
>> If i declare a variable in my scxml file as the example in the Documentation
>> suggests i get an error:
>>
>> My scxml file:
>>
>> <scxml xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/07/scxml"
>>     version="1.0"
>>     initialstate="hello">
>>
>>   <state id="hello">
>>        <onentry>
>>            <var name="foo" expr="'bar'" />
>>       </onentry>
>>
>>   </state>
>> </scxml>
>>
>>
>> But here I get a Warning at the startup:
>> Ignoring element <var> in namespace
>> "http://www.w3.org/2005/07/scxml" at file:main.scxml:34:38 and digester
>> match "scxml/state/onentry/var"
>>
>> What might be the problem here?
>>
>
> The <var> tag is not part of the current SCXML working draft
> (http://www.w3.org/TR/scxml) anymore. Therefore within commons SCXML
> it went into another namespace.
>
> see also:
>
> http://www.nabble.com/SCXML-%3Cvar%3E.-handled-differently-between-SCXMLDigester-and-SCXMLParser---td15132386.html#a15155662
>
>
>> my second question is about registering listeners for notifications of state
>> machine execution events. In the stopwatch example such a listener is
>> implemented for the 3 events onEntry,OnExit and onTransition,
>> but this one only retrieves the stateID and calls a method of the same name
>> by using reflection.
>> Is it possible to get more parameters that can be used later in the Method?
>> For example i would like to implement a state, that is reached because of
>> some special _eventdata. Now the entry into this state triggers a methodcall
>> and within the method I want to know the content of the _eventdata. If thats
>> not possible at least i would like to have access to the datamodel of the
>> Statemachine so i could buffer the _eventdata there (if i figure out how the
>> <var> tags work)
>>
>
> There are several ways to execute methods within the interpreter
> environment. The question is whether
>
> a) you want the author (of the SCXML document) to have explicit
> control of the method invocation (by explicitly using a tag) or
> b) the interpreter environment should execute the method implicitly
> (e.g. when entering some special state), i.e. without author control.
>
> For b) the event listener is the right choice as it is called by the
> interpreter without control of the author.
>
> For a) you could either implement a custom action
> (http://commons.apache.org/scxml/guide/custom-actions.html) and call
> this within <onentry> of the target state or you could use the <send>
> tag to call a method. For the <send> tag you would have to register an
> EventDispatcher (i.e. implement the EventDispatcher interface). This
> EventDispatcher's send() function gets called on execution of the
> <send> tag if the targettype is not "scxml" and/or the "delay"
> attribute is not zero. You can pass parameters (using the namelist
> attribute) and so you could pass every information from the datamodel.
>
> If you decide on a) or b) we could give you more precise information.
>
>
>> I would really appreciate your help in this manner.
>> Wolfgang
> trunk (and the next release, probably 2.0) now requires JDK 1.5
>
> 4) Lang - discussed recently on the dev list:
>  7) SCXML - J6 branch requires JDK 1.6

However, some components are likely to remain on 1.4 (or earlier) -
for example Commons Logging. They will still run on Java 1.5+, and
should still compile on 1.5+ (if not, please raise a JIRA issue).

Hi Pierre,

if you are interested in writing 7-zip support, you may implement this in
the compress-lib, which is currently beeing redesigned:
http://projects.grobmeier.de/compress-redesign.git/
or: http://projects.grobmeier.de/compress-redesign-draft1.zip

The zip support from VFS is only temporary there - later VFS shall depend on
commons-compress.
If you want to help, just setup your own GIT repos and go ahead :-)
>> You definitely don't want to run tomcat as root! Ideally create a new
>> user and group, e.g., 'tomcat6', and run tomcat as that user. You'll
>> want to change ownership of $CATALINA_HOME and everything it contains to
>> tomcat6.
>>
>> I think debian puts the pid in $CATALINA_HOME/temp/tomcat6.pid.  I don't
>> know if that breaks the rules for what goes into 'temp' though.
>>
>> You'll also need to make some ownership changes to your system, as
>> appropriate.  E.g., my $CATALINA_HOME/logs
>> directory is actually a symlink to the more standard /var/log/tomcat6,
>> with the latter owned by my tomcat user instead of root.
>>> Add a flag for pid file to write somewhere where you have
