Code problems?

Hey people , just a quick question and wondering if someone can help me out?.

I need to write a program to be able to take in a text file and read each individual word into a tree.
I can do the tree part ok, its just the actual reading the words that im having difficulty with reading the words into the tree :(

can anyone help?
