Check Syntax error message doesn't make sense (to me)

Hi,

Can anyone tell me why I get this error message (when I do a 'Check
Syntax')

11: Invalid constant type : Alphanumeric

Line 11 is ...

SET UP AREAS DROP DOWNS ("pdd_Areas")

In the project SET UP AREAS DROP DOWNS, I first two lines are ...

        C_TEXT($1)

        IF ($1="pdd_Areas")
        .
        .

The test works fine, but it disturbs me that I have this so-called
error and I can't see what wrong with the code.

What am I doing wrong? Is there something I'm missing?
Is there be something else I should be looking for?

Any help appreciated.

Michael.
